MISSION

The College theme for this year is Mission, one of the three elements of the RNDM Sister's charism.

Euphrasie Barbier was inspired to name the order she founded “Our Lady of the Missions” because she saw in Mary the faithful love, silent contemplation and joyful service necessary to participate in God’s mission.  We are called to echo this in our homes, school and community. Jesus asks all of us to “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

Staff unpacked the theme of Mission by looking at how Scripture, the Church and RNDM sisters understand what Mission is and then exploring how we can put this into practice in our work at the College and in our personal lives. The Mission of God is what Jesus communicated in his life and actions: that there is a loving God who forgives, heals and calls us to reconciliation. Through this, a new vision for society is created in which there is radical inclusion, especially of those on the edges of society. Our task is to find ways to put this into action in our context – by finding ways to reach out in love and care to those we encounter.

Staff then finished with an encouraging story from a Church Synod in the Pacific Islands. One of the young people from the Samoan Islands spoke of the Church as a canoe in which the Elders help to keep on course by judging the position of the stars, while the young keep rowing, imagining what waits for them ahead.  Our Mission calls all of us – students, parents and staff – to climb aboard the same canoe and together seek a better world, with the constantly renewed momentum of the Holy Spirit.
