WELCOME

A warm welcome back to all, especially our new students and their families.  I hope you are looking forward, with enthusiasm, to the 2023 academic year.

The Class of 2028 and all new students in Years 8 to 12 started their journey with us on Wednesday, with all other students returning yesterday.  Whilst some expressed some nervousness, the majority of students were excited and eager to dive straight into life at the College.

As we work in partnership with our parents and guardians, it was pleasing to see students return with a positive mindset, well groomed and prepared for classes.  It is my expectation that we maintain these standards throughout the year.

STRATEGIC PLAN

As you are aware, last year we had input from all members of the College community to develop our Strategic Plan for the next three years.  This Strategic Plan will define a new era, with the clear focus centred on the highest educational standards and facilities and where care for our students is at the heart of all that we do.  You can read the Strategic Plan on the College website HERE.

PARENT INFORMATION EVENINGS

Over the next few weeks, all year groups will be having Parent Information Evenings.  Year 12 parents have already had their evening.  It is vital that at least one parent or caregiver attends these meetings as important information, pertinent to each year group, is disseminated as well as offering the opportunity to meet your son’s or daughter’s Pastoral Care teacher.  Next week, we hold the Years 8  and 9 Parent Night on Wednesday evening, followed by the Mary MacKillop Centre Parent Night on Thursday.  The following week, our Parents and Friends Association has its first meeting on Monday 13 February in the College Staff Room. All parents/caregivers are welcome to attend.

WHOLE COLLEGE ASSEMBLY

As part of our tradition, I noted all the fine academic results achieved by the Class of 2022 in recent correspondence to staff and families.  I extend my congratulations to all of these Year 12, 2022 students who worked hard to reach their goals.

The College community will hold its first Whole School Assembly on Thursday, 9 February to acknowledge and congratulate a number of these students who have excelled and achieved outstanding results.  We know that their academic success is a result of their goal setting, diligent work habits and motivation to excel.

I wish all of our students from the Class of 2022 well for their future endeavours.

STUDENT PICK UP/DROP OFF

Should you need to pick up your child from the College during the school day, you can either park in the five-minute bay outside of main Administration and call the Trevor Lynch Pastoral Care Centre (PCC) on 9246 8202.  Your child will then be sent out to meet you.  Alternatively, parents or guardians can park and proceed to Reception and our receptionist will assist you.

Parents should not proceed to the PCC unless they have a Visitor’s Pass or are accompanied by a staff member.  This is to ensure the safety of all students.

With 1470 students and approximately 180 staff on site, parents and guardians are not to use the area around main administration or the Theatre as a general drop off/collection point at the beginning or end of the school day.  The exception is if a student is sick or injured. Please note the clear signage around this car park.  We also ask that you keep our neighbours in mind when approaching the College.

Vehicles travelling from the north should enter the College via West Coast Highway and then exit left onto Hocking Parade. Vehicles coming from the south should enter from Hocking Parade and then turn left on to West Coast Highway.  Vehicles attempting to turn right into the College off Hocking Parade cause major disruptions to traffic flow in the area and create hazards for our students and inconvenience to our neighbours.  These routes are designed to ensure the safety and comfort of all members of the community.

There are controlled pedestrian crossings on Seacrest Drive and West Coast Highway.  We encourage parents to pick up students from Seacrest Park or the car park adjacent to the Sorrento Surf Club.

Access to the College via Bahama Close is only permitted to parents picking up students from the Mary MacKillop Centre or the Health Centre.  Bahama Close must not be used for morning or afternoon pick up or drop off.  Bahama Close is a no standing zone and the City of Joondalup Rangers are vigilant during school pick up and drop off times.

We encourage students to use public transport, walk or cycle to the College.  This will minimise traffic around the school and support everyone’s wellbeing.  Our bike shed has shelter and there is a bike path into the College grounds from West Coast Highway.

YEAR 12 BALL

Finally, the Year 12 students will have their Ball this evening at Joondalup Resort.  I look forward to celebrating this milestone with all the students, their partners, and staff in attendance.

My best wishes to all members of our community for an enjoyable and successful year.

God Bless
