Co-Curricular Activities

Term 1 has certainly started with a bang with a record number of 360 students (excluding rowers) participating in a least one co-curricular activity.

A massive thank you to all the sVc staff and parents that have volunteered to coach, manage or supervise our teams and programs.

With some activities starting up over the next few weeks, please stay tuned to emails from EdSmart.

A reminder that any cancellations or changes to fixtures will also be notified with EdSmart and also via the College Sports Facebook page and the College App.

Year 7 Sailing Come and Try

As part of the Year 7 introduction to College life, and the opportunities that exist, next week all students will be given a chance to try out sailing.

Located next to the Austins Ferry boat ramp, the College owned and operated Marine Education Centre (MEC) will play host to the Year 7 Sailing Come & Try Sessions as per the following timetable.

Monday February 27

Periods 3-4, 7A and 7E: 11.15 am - 12.55 pm

Tuesday February 28

Periods 1-2, 7C and 7D: 9.00 am - 10.40 am

Periods 3-4, 7B and 7F: 11.15 am - 12.55 pm

Students should report to normal timetabled classrooms initially, where roles will be marked and then teachers will walk the students down to the MEC.  Each session will be approximately 1.5 hours in duration and will include both land and water-based activities.  Each group will walk back to campus during either recess or lunch.  Drink bottles and recess/lunch should also taken down to the MEC with students.

Students are to wear College Sports Uniform and should come prepared with appropriate clothing to get wet, including a towel and wetsuit if they have one.  Life jackets will be provided.

All students will be provided with expert guidance from sVc Sailing Coordinators Matt Cubit and Brother Peter Flint, along with assistance from experienced senior student sailors.

At the end of the Come and Try Sessions, all students will be provided with some basic information on how to get involved with Sailing at sVc on a regular basis, either with our Racing Team or Development Program.  An opportunity for parents to ask questions of our Sailing Coordinators via Teams will also be communicated in due course.

Should any parents have a sailing or boating background and be available to assist next week, please do not hesitate to contact me at mmoschogianis@stvirgils.tas.edu.au

If the weather turns nasty, students will remain in class and the Come and Try sessions will be rescheduled.
