Catholic Identity

Creator God, we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, as we walk together on your path of love, hope and faith.

Thank you for the gifts of our school,

our environment, our families and friends.

May our school be a place of learning, care, welcome and celebration.

Mary our Mother, pray for us.

St Mary of the Cross, pray for us.

Amen

This year’s theme for C.E.Sandhurst schools is

“Let the words you speak always be full of grace.”

As we continue to spread the Good News, we are called to be people of dialogue,

using our words as instruments of love.

We will encourage those in our care to speak kindly to one another in the classroom, the playground, on the bus, in the car and at home.

                                      ZOOPER DOOPERS

Zooper Doopers will be available every Tuesday and Thursday.

Cost is .50c (limit one per student per day).

Thank you to the 3/4 class for organising and proceeds will go to Mini Vinnies.

Since the beginning of Term the Grade 3/ 4 have been selling Icy poles during break on Tuesday and Thursdays to raise money for St Vincent de Paul who are a lay Catholic organisation that aspires to live the gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and encouraging people to take control of their own destiny.

Last Tuesday, the students worked on procedural writing to work out how to make the mixture for pancakes. They then enjoyed having pancakes cooked by Jennie and Mrs Fraser. This was all in the spirit of Shrove Tuesday - the day before Ash Wednesday.

On Friday, the 3rd March, the Gr 5 /6 students led the Mass with Fr Minh, which focused on the World Day of Prayer. They were a credit to themselves in conducting themselves during the Mass. Well done. This day is celebrated on the first Friday of March each year to encourage Christian women to engage in personal prayer and lead communal prayer within their mission auxiliaries and associations.

On 22nd Wednesday Fr Minh invited the St Mary’s School Community to join the St Mary’s parishioners to the Ash Wednesday Mass. It was pleasing to see the  students conduct themselves in a respectful and peaceful manner. They learnt more from Fr Minh and his homily about where the ashes come from, used during this Mass, and why we have them placed on our heads now.

During this special time for Catholics all around the world we are called, during Lent, to do three things: Lent is a 40 day season of prayerfasting, and almsgiving. This time begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter.

The St Mary's School Community has also started exploring the lives of other impoverished people in different countries through the Caritas Australia program.

Through the Project Compassion boxes, we ask you to give what you can to help transform the lives of others less fortunate in our World by donating either online or by placing coins in the cardboard boxes that will come home with the eldest in our families.
