F/1/2 News

The F/1/2 students have had a great two weeks of learning. In Maths, we have been learning about place value and regrouping collections into tens and hundreds. This has also helped the student count larger quantities more efficiently. We have also just moved into our new unit of position and movement. In this unit, the students will learn about following and giving directions, as well as reading maps, and describing transformations.

In Writing, the students have been working hard on developing their own sentences and learning about the different parts of a sentence. They have also been enjoying their quick write sessions, where they develop their own stories based upon a picture prompt.

In Walker Learning, we have been making and solidifying friendships. The students have been playing together with elaborate play ideas that are continuing over multiple sessions. One in particular is the farm. Some of the students have been working together to make a farm using animals, wooden blocks, Lego, big blocks and Mobilo. They have been working very hard on having all elements of the farm and have been discussing farm routines, such as when to feed the animals, milk the cows, and plant the seed.

                               3/4 News

This fortnight in the grade 3/4 room we have been learning about the history of our own school. We have been looking through old school photo albums and visiting the school website to find similarities and differences about the school.

Some interesting things we noticed are…

- the school will turn 70 next year.

- the basketball court used to be in the middle of the two main buildings

- Laura and Mrs Jamieson were prep / grade 6 buddies!!

- our classroom has gone through a lot of changes over the years.

We have also been looking at fractions and recognising what represents a whole- we have made gum ball machines to help us learn.

Our class held a preyer service for Ash Wednesday. Mrs Brook was very impressed with the public speaking skills of her class! We had an excellent audience including students, staff and parents- thank you parents for attending.
