Learning and Teaching at Corpus Christi

'In our Catholic community, where faith and knowledge are in partnership, the child is at the heart of all learning and teaching. Learning and teaching engages, challenges and inspires students to respond to and be successful in their world.'

Some key aspects to Learning and Teaching at Corpus Christi include:

Learning intentions -  Learning Intentions are descriptions of what learners should know,

understand and be able to do by the end of a sequence of learning or lessons.

Learning intentions are the basis for tracking student progress, providing feedback and assessing achievement. In our learning communities, you will see these written as a WALT. This stands for “We Are Learning To”.

Success criteria - Success criteria are the criteria used by teachers and students to identify whether they have met the learning intentions. They are important to students as it gives them  clear and specific ideas on what they need to achieve and the actions they need to take. They are important to teachers as it assists teachers in identifying student learning progress.

Examples -

Prep Reading:

Year 3/4 Reading:

Year 5/6 Maths:

Focus groups - Using the information we collect about our students, we can then plan targeted teaching groups that focus on what students need. These groups change as students progress through the learning.

Effective feedback - When we bring together the learning intentions and success criteria and how they are demonstrated by the students,  teachers can be specific in their feedback to students about their learning. Key feedback questions for students, teachers and families to consider together are:

Where am I going?

How am I going?

Where to next?

Why do we use Learning Intentions and Success Criteria?

They:

Ensure all students know what they are going to learn and where they are heading.

Help students understand what improved performance looks like.

Provide guidance to teachers on what their chosen teaching and learning activities are seeking to achieve.

Provide the basis for feedback to students.

Assist students and teachers in tracking and assessing student progress.

What our students say about WALTs and success criteria:

“We don’t have to ask the teacher what to do, we can look at the screen.” Sienna 3/4S

“It lets us know what we need to learn and if we forget we can always look on the board to know.” Christina 3/4S

“It helps me if I forget what to do and I can look at it and remember.” Auberon 5/6W

“So we can learn and get better at learning.” Samuel 5/6W

“They help me to listen and know what I have to do.” Violet 1/2Z
