Big Brekky

Only three more sleeps until  our Big Brekky!

Yes , that's right. It is this Friday 14th February commencing at 8:00 am. All families are welcome to join us for breakfast in the central courtyard and feast upon a range of pastries, fruit, sausages, juice and tea and coffee (a Coffee Van will be on site).

It will be a time to catch-up, meet new people and just enjoy the new year. We hope to see you all there!

Assembly Prayer

I loved the prayer that  Year 5/6S led us in at our first assembly of  the year. I thought it really captured the essence of how we wish to start each year so much so that I thought I would share it with you all:

We give you praise, O God,for everything that is new and beautiful,

for everything which holds promise and brings us joy.

Bless us as we start this new year with our friends and teachers

Help us to make the most of every chance we have to start afresh.

May we show love to one another and to all.

May the new beginning of this school year remind us that you give us chances to start over again and again.

Help us to forgive others as we receive your forgiveness.

Help us to learn and to work together.

Help us to listen when we should and to know the best words when we speak and when it is better not to speak.

We thank you for our friends

Help us to be good friends this year.

Help us to be patient with ourselves and with others.

Bless everyone that makes up our school community here at Corpus Christi and keep us safe.

Be with us as we travel each day.

Help us to be aware of your love shown to us in the people around us.

We make this prayer in Jesus’ name

Amen

Student Leadership

This Friday all Year 5/6 students who have applied for a position on one of the Student Leadership teams will have the opportunity to present themselves along with what they have to offer through our interview process. Children will be notified the same day  and the successful candidates will presented to our school community at next Monday's  Assembly.

We wish them all the very best!

Car Park

Since we have a number of new families commencing at Corpus Christi School this year I thought it timely to revisit school ‘drop off’ and ‘pick-up’ procedures. Families can use either end of the school to drop off and collect their children.  However it is of utmost importance that all families adhere to the parking restrictions within the school car park and surrounding streets.

In the front car park, parking IS ONLY PERMITTED in designated parking bays and ‘Keep Clear’ areas and No Standing areas must be kept clear. There is NO ‘drop-off’ zone. Cars must be parked in the designated bays.

If the car park is full it will be necessary for people to park outside the school grounds and walk in to collect their child. Children are not permitted to walk unattended through the car park.

If dropping off or collecting your children from the Ormond Road entrance of the school, basic road laws and common sense prevails.

Please do not double park, perform 3-point turns in the street or allow your children to enter/exit cars unless you have pulled up at the kerb. Children are not permitted to cross Ormond Road by themselves. Parents are to collect their children from the gate.

The No Stopping signs outside our gate must be observed at all times!

These rules are put into place to ensure the safety of our children!  You may also like to consider arriving for pick-up just after 3:30 pm so as to miss the ‘peak hour’ traffic.

REMINDER

No children (including toddlers) are to play on the Adventure Playground before or after school.

Sharing of Food

It is important to remind all children and families that at no time should children be sharing food with other children during eating times. We have a number of children with food allergies so, for the safety of all, we ask all families to reiterate the importance, with their children, of not sharing food with others.

Throughout the year, children may bring lolly bags to school to share with their classmates to celebrate their birthday; however we ask that these be distributed by the class teacher at home time and are only eaten with the permission of parents. Please do not bring cakes to school.

Internet Agreement Forms

Last week we sent out information regarding our Student Information and Communication Technology Usage Policy via the  e-Learning page in our Newsletter.  If you haven't had the opportunity to read this in conjunction with the Information & Communications Technology Student Access Agreement form which your child brought home last week, we ask that you do this immediately. The documentation explains the digital practices that Corpus Christi uses in order to keep your children safe and responsible in an ever changing digital world.

Once the agreement is signed by both parent and child and returned to school,  complete access to our ITC systems students can be granted.

Absentees

Please note that it is a requirement that parents notify the school (preferably in writing) of all instances when their child may be absent for all or part of a day. This can be easily done via our school app. Alternatively you can contact the school office by phone to report an absence. Please notify us of absences prior to 9:30 am.

School App

A reminder to everyone to download our school app!

Communications and updates are regularly sent via the  app so it's definitely a 'must have'.

Simply visit  Google Play or the App Store and  search for our school name.

Learning and Teaching

Make sure you check out the new Learning and Teaching page in our newsletter each week.  This page will allow our Director of Learning and Teaching, Miss Deborah Courtney to keep you up-to-date with all things 'Learning and Teaching' and give you an insight into why (and how) we do things the way we do.

Sports Uniform

Children are to wear their SPORTS uniform (2 days per week) on days where they are scheduled for Physical Education.

Library News

It has been very exciting  to commence Library classes with the children this year. I will be taking the Library lessons for Prep and Year 1/2 and Signora Anderson will take the lessons for Years 3/4.

The children who returned their Library bags to school at the end of last year borrowed books last week. If your child has their Library bag at home please send it to school so that the children can borrow books on the following days:

Prep NV and Year 1/2B: Monday

Prep L: Tuesday

Year 3/4H and 3/4S: Wednesday

Year 1/2C and 1/2Z: Thursday

I would like to extend a huge thank you to Belinda Johnson and Sharlene Delovski who both very generously made the library bags for our new Prep children.

Prep Learning Confereneces

This term Learning Conferences for our Prep children have been scheduled for  Wednesday 26th February: 2:00pm - 6:00pm. Please note that there will be normal classes running all day for Prep children.

As the child is at the heart of everything we do we ask that all children attend the Learning Conferences with their parents.  For Prep parents with an interview prior to 3:30pm we ask that you collect your child from their classroom and take them with you to the interview area.

We understand that at times, there may be a need to address matters that ‘aren’t meant for the child’s ears’ and we will certainly accommodate those needs towards the end of the appointment time.

We hope that the opportunity for all to take part in these Learning Conferences proves most beneficial. The meetings will be scheduled every 12 minutes. We understand that in some special cases a longer time will be required and if this is the case you are asked to make alternative arrangements with your class teacher.

Prep families are to use School Interviews Online to manage bookings.

Please go to www.schoolinterviews.com.au , enter the event code of caxcd and follow the simple instructions to book interviews for the times that suit your family.

BOOKINGS ARE NOW OPEN.

Scholastic Book Club

Welcome to the Scholastic Book Club for 2020. Issue 1 is out now and due back on 21/2/2020. All orders need to be made through the Scholastic Book Club LOOP at www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP. The school does not accept cash or cheque payments.

For those new to Book Club, it’s a great way to get some extra books for your kids and help raise funds for the school too. 20% of the price of the books gets refunded back to the school to buy literacy products and supplies.

We send out one  issue a term. There is no obligation to buy any books from book club if you don’t want to. If you order, the books are delivered to your child’s class. If your books are a present, please let Debbie know and we can hold them at the office for you to pick up directly.

For those who have used the LOOP last year, please update your child’s details to ensure their books go to the correct class when they arrive.

If you are having any difficulties with the LOOP platform or have any questions at all about book club, please come and see me.
