Assistant Principal's Report

Respectful Relationships

This week we were visited by a consulting company who were evaluating the roll out of the Respectful Relationships initiative at our school. As part of this evaluation we established focus groups with students, parents and teachers who were able to provide feedback and valuable information that will be used in shaping the future of this program. We also invited the project leads to be a part of the process. The consultants shared some of their initial findings with me and shared that they were truly impressed with how mature and articulate the students were when sharing their opinions and understandings. We were also recognised as being a highly successful example of the initiative. We would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to be a part of the evaluation process.

Next term we will be establishing the Action Teams with both students and parents working alongside to create positive change in our school and wider community. More information will be available next term when we invite students and parents to be a part of the program.

Student Achievement

Last week Dylan Haeusler and I had the pleasure of presenting a workshop at the Regional Principal Forum. MPS has been recognised for outstanding improvement in achievement data in reading and we were invited to share our story with school leaders from two Victorian regions. It was an absolute honour to be able to share the fabulous work that takes place every day with our students, teachers and parents. Our strong collaborative culture and consistent teaching practices have been key to our success. We are so proud of our teachers and students for setting high expectations and achieving these goals.

Thanking Mrs Marmo

In the beginning of this term we were told that Sharon Marmo would be coming to our school to be the acting principal while we underwent the principal selection process, and I don’t think we were quite aware how lucky we were to have her. Sharon has been a whirlwind of positivity and practicality and has enthusiastically led our school throughout the term, getting to know us all and preparing the school for a new principal. On behalf of all of the MPS community, we would like to thank Sharon for making this a smooth transition, for her wisdom and support, and for her guidance. We will miss having you about the place.

Staffing Update

At the end of this term, three of our staff members will be leaving MPS. Anna Hayes, our teacher and Digital Technologies Coordinator, will be embarking on a new chapter at ‘Code Like a Girl’, a fantastic organisation supporting girls and women to get involved in ICT. Likewise, Elloise Cooper will also be leaving us for the remainder of the year to work in the family business. We hope to see both of these fabulous teachers around later in the year and wish them all the best in their new ventures. We value and acknowledge their hard work and the difference they have made at MPS, particularly in Digital Technologies and Data and Assessment.

We also wish our P.E. teacher, Matthew Hewat, all the very best as he finishes the term at MPS. Although Matt was only with us for a short time, we thank him for his work at MPS. A new teacher will be appointed for the remainder of the year.
