From the Principal

Support those affected by bushfires

Eternal God,

In wisdom and love you created our earth to sustain us and give us life. We turn to you now in faith, hope and love, asking you to look with favour on our fire-ravaged and drought-stricken land, on our starving and displaced animals, on our failing crops and burning farms,

towns and forests.

Strengthen, sustain and give new heart to our farmers and to all who are affected by drought; be with those who support them.

Strengthen and comfort the victims of the fires, those who have lost family, friends, property and stock.

Protect our volunteer firefighters and all members of essential services.

In your loving providence, send abundant rain to quench the fires and to restore our parched earth.

Father of all compassion, hear our prayer through Jesus Christ your Son, in whom the promise of new life has dawned, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, the Lord the giver of life:

Renew your faithful people; Renew the face of the earth.

Our Lady of the Southern Cross,

Mary, help of Christians –

Pray for us.

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop -

Pray for us.

Dear Families

Welcome to the 2020 School Year

It has been terrific to welcome our 2020 Foundation class, a class of 59 very eager, confident and enthusiastic children.  We also warmly welcome 7 children enrolling into classes from Grade One through to Grade Six.  We welcome Artorius, Ehan, Tyrese, Lucian, Alam, Yianni and Curtis.   We hope that our new children find great happiness, and many new friendships, as they settle into the St Andrew’s community. Our welcome extends to all new families to the St Andrew’s community.

We welcome 2 new staff members to St Andrew’s community in 2020. We welcome Mrs Emma Strom (Learning Enhancement Leader) and Mrs Anita Arslanian (Learning Support Officer) to our team.  We wish Emma and Anita a most enjoyable and fulfilling time at St Andrew’s.

Novel Coronavirus Correspondence from Catholic Education Melbourne

Parents are encouraged to read the correspondence below in relation to the CEM approach to the Novel Coronavirus:   (This correspondence was shared  previously via the Skoolbag App)

Dear Parents and Carers

The safety and care of your children is paramount to me and our school community.

I am writing to you following new advice from the Australian and Victorian governments regarding the novel coronavirus.

All children who have travelled to Hubei Province of China, are advised to stay at home and avoid public settings, including attendance at schools and early learning centres, until 14 days after last being in Hubei province, China. This applies to any and all students even if they do not show any symptoms of the virus.

Children who are well and have travelled to other provinces in China, or any other areas where there have been reported cases, are NOT recommended to be excluded from schools unless the following applies:

·     The person is a confirmed case of novel coronavirus

·     The person is a close contact with a confirmed case of novel coronavirus in the past 14 days

If you think your child is showing any relevant symptoms of the novel corona virus, please call the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to discuss further actions on 1300 651 160.

This advice is also being provided to teachers and other school staff to ensure we mitigate any risks associated with the spread of the virus.

You can access further information and updates from the following websites:

·     For Victorian updates to the current incident, go to:

·     For national updates:

·     For international updates:

·     WHO resources

In circumstances like these, there can understandably be a lot of concern and uncertainty about the safety of your child. Please know that I will provide any revised advice to you as soon as it becomes available.

Kind regards,

Cyber Safety Evening - Year 3/4/5 attendance, along with an open invitation to all

Parents of Year 3/4/5 children are requested to attend a Cyber Safety Evening to be held on Tuesday 11th February (6.30pm - 7.45pm) in the School Hall.    The evening is also an open invitation to all parents from Foundation to Year 2.   We are requesting the attendance of at least one parent of each Year 3/4/5 child.  With the children accessing the use of one-to-one Chromebooks it is essential that both parents, students and staff are aware of the responsible use of technology at home and at school.

Parents who attended the February 2019 Cyber Safety session do not have to attend this forthcoming session but are warmly welcomed.

Beginning at 6.30pm parents will be led through a Cyber Safety presentation by our guest presenter Marty McGauran.

Marty will be presenting Cyber Safety sessions for all children from Year 1 to Year 6.   Class teachers will present cyber safety sessions throughout the first weeks of term 1 and throughout the school year.

Both Parent and Student are required to attend these interviews.  Thank you.

Reporting to Parents/Parent Child Teacher Interviews –

Through the positive feedback received from parents throughout 2019 we will continue to meet with parents and students at the end of Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3, providing an avenue to have positive and formative conversations on student progress.   Formal Reports will be distributed to at the conclusion of Term 2 and Term 4.

Parent Teacher Interviews dates for the year are detailed below:

Term 1 Interviews: Monday 23rd March

Term 2 Interviews: Monday 22nd & Wednesday 24th June

Term 3 Interviews: Monday 14th September

Unexplained Student Absence’ - Notifying the School Office of Student Absences

It is essential that parents contact the school either by phone, 9551 5094 from 8am, via email -   or via the Skoolbag App,   if your child will be absent from school.

Parents who do not contact the school will be phoned throughout the day seeking clarity on the whereabouts of their child.

As a means of saving our administration team from making multiple phone calls we ask that parents contact the school to advise of student absences.  If a child is to be absent for a number of days then parents are asked to advise the class teacher of an extended time of absence.  This may be applicable to family holidays, extended periods of illness etc.

This process has been put in place as a matter of safety for the children in our care. We thank parents for your support of this new procedure.

School Uniform

We are working with PSW to update our school uniform. This winter we will see the introduction of navy tailored pants for boys and girls, along with a winter tunic and white shirt for the girls. As we work towards transitioning to the new uniform we have made a slight change to the boys summer uniform.  When purchasing boys shorts for this summer PSW will inform families that the shorts are the royal blue track shorts not grey shorts as previous years.

Tuckshop 2020 Opening Hours

The Canteen will open from 10 February, 2020 and will be open for recess sales on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 11.30am.

Parents will recall that we have appointed Mina Spano to the role as Canteen Coordinator for the 2020 school year.  We’re excited to present our children with a new menu, full of healthy options. We’ll communicate to parents in the coming fortnight as to what a weekly canteen menu may look like.   Given that we are looking to provide our children with freshly made healthy foods it may be a case where we advise parents on an ongoing basis as to what’s on sale in the week ahead.

Mina will be warmly welcoming parents to jump on board as canteen helpers on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Stay tuned!

Classroom Cuisine

We have been advised that lunch orders with Classroom Cuisine can take place from Monday 3rd February.

Please refer below to the attached Classroom Cuisine Menu Link.

Tuckshop & Lunch Details for 2020

Please refer below to the full details of the access to School Recess & Lunches below - These details were distributed to parents in the latter half of 2019:

Tuckshop Operation for 2020

As advised through the school newsletter, 8th August 2019, we have restructured the services as offered through the school tuckshop for 2020.

We advise parents to refer below to the services as offered through the School Canteen, at recess Monday, Wednesday, Friday,  and as offered through the external lunch provider Classroom Cuisine.

Parents will be required to register with the Classroom Cuisine website   to order lunches.   Lunches can be ordered weekly on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

After much deliberation the Board has arrived at a future Canteen structure that would look to provide the following service delivery:

Morning Recess - Canteen open 3 days per week - Mon/Wed/Fri

  • Canteen recess menu to be reviewed by Education Board sub-committee to provide a healthy balanced morning tea option for all students.   The morning canteen service will be independently hosted by the school as is the current practice.  Throughout term 4 we will look to the employment of a canteen coordinator who will work 3 mornings per week. Time will be factored into this role to allow for preparation of fresh ‘home cooked’ items, along with a selection of packaged retail products.

Lunchtime -     The canteen will not be open at lunchtimes.   Lunches will be provided by an external provider.   Classroom Cuisine is a locally owned external provider who will provide lunch services to St Andrew’s School.   The Board elected to use Classroom Cuisine as an external provider primarily due to the healthy food options available through their online menu options.   Classroom Cuisine presented to members of the Board the philosophy behind their approach to meal options and provided numerous food options to trial.

Meals are ordered and paid for through an online portal.  Meals are available 4 days a week on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.   Orders can be made on days prior to or up to 8.30am on the day required.  No orders will be processed after 8.30am. Meals are delivered to the school each day in classroom designated containers between 11am-12.30pm.

Parents can refer to the Classroom Cuisine website -  for full details of the online ordering process and meal options available.

Classroom Cuisine currently caters for over 120 schools in Melbourne.

Skoolbag App - Download

To install the St. Andrew’s School App, just look for our school name "St Andrews Clayton South" in the Apple App Store (iPhone Users) or Google Play Store (Android Users), and install it on your phone.  Alternatively, once in the App Store or Play Store search ‘skoolbag app st andrews’.

CareMonkey Registration for

New Families

It is recommended that parents access the site  .  By following the instructions you can create your own free CareMonkey account and control all data about your child/children. The CareMonkey system stores the information on your behalf and you will be able to grant (or deny) access to your data with our school. You are also able to share this data with any other group or individual you choose (eg. your child's grandparents, their child-minder, their sports club, etc).

From the school’s perspective, this information will only be visible by the relevant staff for your child and will be managed in accordance with the Privacy Act.

Medical Issues

Please contact the school office if there are any medical issues that we should be aware of.   It is most important that all medical forms, asthma and anaphylaxis plans, are updated for the 2020 school year and returned promptly.  We are advised that children may need to be excluded from school if they do not have the required medical information or medication available at the school eg. Epipens, with the correct ‘use by dates’.

Do I have to complete an Action Plan, if the child only has seasonal asthma, or asthma symptoms when they have a cold?

Yes, any time asthma medication is prescribed and expected to be taken at school or the children's service, it must by law be accompanied by a medical management plan. If the health professional is concerned about diagnosing the child with asthma, it is recommended that they put a shorter review date on the action plan, and write a covering letter to the school or children's service explaining the expected time frame the child will need reliever medication.

Playground Supervision

Please note that the school grounds are supervised before school from 8.30am through to 3.45pm. Children should not be on the grounds prior to 8.30am or after 3.45pm.  Please remind children that if they have not been collected after school then they must return to the office.

Out of Hours School Care

We are delighted to welcome Jennifer Wilson back as the schools Out of Hours School Care (Youth Leadership Victoria) coordinator.  Out of Hours School Care runs daily from 6.30am to 8.30am and 3.15pm to 6.30pm. Youth Leadership/After School Care registration details may be accessed through the school office or on the Youth Leadership website -

No Hat - No Play

With term 1 upon us we remind parents that children are required to wear school hats to school, at all outdoor sessions and home from school.  The school has a ‘No Hat – No Play’ Sunsmart policy.

Please note that with the additions of the blue shade structures outside the Foundation classrooms and the church we now have greater capacity for children to play in areas providing shade.
