Metal Fabrication
In the Middle Ages the heart of Jesus became a specific object of adoration, as the centre and wellspring of Jesus' passionate and infinite love for us. The Sacred Heart also represented Jesus' woundedness, both the physical wound incurred to his physical heart on the cross (by the centurion's spear), and the spiritual wound of a love so great that he gave up his life, even while this love is scorned by those for whom it was so generously given.
Year 10 Metal Fabrication students engage in a variety of practical projects over the semester. Each project has a specific focus with an overarching theme of the manipulation and fabrication of metal material.
This particular project enabled students to investigate the meaning behind the Sacred Heart, also known as the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. One of the deepest devotions in the Roman Catholic Church. The Sacred Heart is depicted in many different ways and students were encouraged to research the Sacred Heart and then produce a representation based on their interpretation using tin sheet metal.
The results varied greatly and each one is a unique piece of art that demonstrates various skills associated with the design process that all Technology students need to understand as they progress through their senior studies.
