Clyde North Campus News
A message from our Deputy Principal - Head of Campus
What a busy week! We started the week with two exciting and critical launches; the Year 7 Reading Challenge and the VCE study Hub (more details about these events will be in next week’s newsletter). These events were quickly followed with the annual Campus Welcome Evening and bringing the week to a close was the very exciting 2019 Swimming Carnival. We also saw much activity in the new Piazza area as it becomes a popular space for students to talk, relax, enjoy a game of four square and on Wednesdays listen the wonderful music and songs of our talented students. This week we enjoyed the talents of the VET music students from both the Clyde North and Cranbourne Campuses. We are incredibly blessed to have this beautifully designed space to serve the active, social and reflective needs of our community.
Welcome Evening
It was wonderful to see so many families attend this evening. Critical information and conversations were shared on a variety of topics related to the pursuit of positive growth in the academic, social and emotional wellbeing of our students.
Feedback from the evening has been inspiring. The Year 9 Passion Projects were a fantastic vehicle to showcase 21st Century learning and teaching at its best. As students led their families through hands on learning experiences, the extent of their growth and development of critical and creative thinking skills was evident. House Leaders and Learning Advisors were also able to forge stronger relationships through shared experiences and understandings from parents and guardians. This is how we continue to build a strong faith led and learning community that is St. Peter's College.
In relation to the presentation from the Bully Zero Foundation, both students and parents have shared with me that their views and attitudes towards this critical issue have been transformed and a renewed confidence in adopting strategies to support their children has been empowering. I encourage all families to visit the Bully Zero website for support and strategies to engage in positive family discussions around this most serious issue.
SRC 2019
The 2019 SRC and Forum Leaders have certainly begun their journey as active leaders and innovators. This week they showcased their strengths and commitment as servant leaders by attending to the needs of staff, students and parents involved with the Welcome Evening. Their support ensured a smooth and efficient transition of each stage of the Welcome Evening. Whether they we busy as tour guides or serving finger food, each student leader did so with grace ensuring all parents/guardians felt welcomed and a part of our community. I did ask two members of the SRC, why you wanted to be part of the SRC. Here are their reflective responses.
I wanted to be an SRC member to challenge myself more, become more involved with activities at school, and to hopefully help the school develop. I am hoping that this year the SRC will be more involved than it has in previous years and that this year will be its best so far.(Samuel)
I wanted to be a part of the SRC to gain a strong understanding of the needs of our school community. Working as a team, with members being all kinds of ages and coming from all Houses, allows new projects, activities and solutions be contributed to, from all perspectives and views.
I really do hope the SRC is a productive and effective system that ensures our school community is actively listened to. Hopefully we achieve not only many projects but also building leaders within our school by providing experience and responsibilities, growing confidence and drive. (Maureen)
Swimming Carnival 2019
After a very tight competition it was Augustine House who secured an unbeatable lead to take out first place in this year’s competition. Their House Leader and House Captains had a very strategic plan right from the outset. It was their mission to ensure every member in the House felt that they could participate, not necessarily win a race, but participate. And it was this level of participation in every event including the novelty items that saw Augustine House victorious for 2019.
The House Spirit competition was fiercely competitive with joyful and passionate cheering and chanting of house songs continuous throughout the day. Romero House was relentless in voice, cheer and dance ensuring that they were truly worthy recipients of the 2019 House Spirit Trophy.
One of the highlights of the day was the staff vs student race. It should have come as no surprise that the staff blitzed the student competitors once an unbeatable lead was established by the powerful swimming champion, Mr Couty. A wonderful day, operating so efficiently under the leadership of Mr Shannon Samaranayake and his team. On behalf of all students, staff and parents we thank them for a most memorable 2019 Swimming Carnival.

Building community by sharing faith at St Thomas the Apostle Youth Group @ Clyde North Campus
At the end of our Opening Mass last week, Liturgy Captain Ben Salu invited us to come along to the Youth Group run by St Thomas the Apostle at the Clyde North Campus on Friday evenings. Such was the infectious invitation, I attended last Friday evening. Well, this was an evening well spent. The enthusiasm, joy and fun shared by this group of teenagers ranging in age from 12 to 18 was indeed special. The ability to share in God’s message openly and proudly is fundamental to our faith and spiritual journey. The youth leaders are funny, articulate and creative, making the evening a must go to event. All students are very welcome.
The youth meet every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month at 7.30pm.The next meeting will be on Friday, 1 March. All announcements for youth meetings and events will be published in the parish bulletin.
And finally:
- We are now preparing for the next exciting building phase at the Clyde North Campus. This does however mean part of the grounds become a building zone and it is imperative that all of us adhere to the NO ZONE signs. For the safety, security and efficiency of people and project I respectfully request that parents, students and visitors to the campus not park, enter by vehicle or foot the building zones which are clearly fenced and signed. We are extremely fortunate to have state of the art 21st Century learning external and internal spaces. I thank you in anticipation of your continued support and cooperation as the next building phase begins.
- Bus passes – by now all students travelling on the buses will have received their new bus pass. It is the student’s responsibility to show their pass each journey. I must stress that it is critical that students only travel on their designated bus. We are at capacity for each bus with no room to support students swapping bus routes just because they see a vacant seat on a given day. Please be mindful that an empty seat will represent a student who is most likely absent due to illness and not a permanent vacancy on that bus.
I wish you all a safe and productive week.
