A Fortnight in Review

Well done to the Year 2 class for taking out the Uniform Award last fortnight during the Reception assembly.  It has been great to see the students continuing to wear their uniform with pride. I also congratulated Anne Blain for taking out the RISE Award for her perseverance and hard work in class as well as helping students and teachers in the classroom.

Last Sunday, a number of students from Year 6 to 11 travelled down to Victoria Race Course to participate in the Pedal Prix.  The students excelled and improved on their times from last year.  Tyndale came a very respectable 22 out of 64 (Yr 6 and 7) and 47 out of 62 (Yr 8–11) in our two categories.  The next race will take place later on in the year.  Well done to Jason, Clint and the team!

During the June long weekend, 3 Tyndale Students (Noah Frahn (Yr 4), Hamish Wilson (Yr 6) and Alex Twartz (Yr 8)) were selected from the Adelaide Hills Junior Soccer Association (AHJSA) to participate in the South Australian Junior State Championship Competition.  Over the 3-day tournament, they played against teams from across South Australia, playing 2-3 games a day.  These students will continue their training and will look towards competing in the Country Championships held at Pt Pirie later this year in September. Congratulations and well done to those students.

Over the last two weeks, it has been exciting to see students talking about taking part in class excursions.  These have included:

  • Year 1 – Woolworths Discovery Tour
  • Year 2 Excursion – Metropolitan Fire Station and Tandanya

I know other classes have excursions planned over the next two weeks.  It will be great to hear their stories and see their excitement; stay tuned.

During the week we had a visit from Mark and his company Deadly Australians.  The students were fixated on the many cute and venomous creatures he brought with him; from long-neck turtles and blue tongue lizards to inland taipans and brown snakes.  Thanks Mark for a wonderful visit and to the students for being wonderful listeners.

If you have not returned your RSVP for the Barn Dance on Friday 28 June, please get them in.  There will be awesome entertainment, food and company. See you there!

Thank you to the many people who helped during our Grandparent’s Day celebration.  It was a wonderful occasion for all and the food was magnificent! A whole page of the Newsletter has been dedicated to photos taken on the day.

Kylie Grivell will be heading to Kenya in Week 9 and 10.  She will be travelling with staff and students from Salisbury East as well as 2 students from Strathalbyn (Montana How and Taryn Connor).  Tyndale support two children’s homes in Kenya.  This time will provide those children with much needed support emotionally as well as through educational programs.  Staff and students will also help with the maintenance of buildings and surrounds.  Have a great time, we will miss you all.

Take care and enjoy your week.

Year 1s head to Woolies

On Thursday 13 June 2019, the Year 1 class went to Woolworths Strathalbyn to learn about healthy eating.

They went on an exclusive tour behind the scenes exploring the store rooms, bakery and deli. Students were treated to a large variety of fresh fruit and enjoyed making fruit skewers. Afterwards, they shopped for some ingredients to make pizzas.

On Friday, the Year 1 students went to the School's Kitchen and made pizzas.

They worked in groups to cut the ingredients they bought on their excursion to Woolworths. They then rolled the dough to make their own fresh pizza bases. Students had lots of fun choosing what toppings to put on their pizza. They are now writing a Procedure Text on, how to make the best pizza.

Year 2s at the MFS

On Friday the Year 2 class set off to visit the Metropolitan Fire Station and Tandanya Art Gallery in Adelaide. We saw the fire trucks in action as they left to help with an emergency and saw the fire fighters come down the fireman pole.

At Tandanya we spent some time exploring the gallery and looking at the artwork on display by a number of indigenous artists.

No trip to the city would be complete without a visit to the Princess Elizabeth playground for some play time.

Year 6 Food & Hospitality

The Year 6 Semester 1 Food and Hospitality class have been exploring international cuisine as part of their studies. They recently travelled to the Central Markets in Adelaide to further explore what foods are out there and learn more about what foods are available to them. Students delved into every nook and cranny finding out information about local and international products before stopping for lunch which they bought at the market itself.

Finally there was time to shop and purchase some international food before heading back to school.

Thank you very much to Kathryn Wright, Sarah Clark, Rachel Green and Tracy Falzon for helping out on the day and helping guide students around the Central Markets.

Year 4s trip to the Zoo

On Friday, 7 June 2019 saw both Year 4 classes heading off on a combined excursion to the Adelaide Zoo.

When we got there, we had a quick bite and then broke off into small groups to explore the animals that our groups wished to see. There was an albino meerkat that was rather cute and a funny orangutan who decided to spend his afternoon with a bag on his head!

The students were well-behaved and had a lot of fun sharing about the nocturnal animals (that were really tricky to spot) and the size of the lions. Eating lunch with everyone together on the big lawn was also a nice way to finish, birds swooping pleasantly overhead.

A big thank you to all our wonderful parent helpers.
