Principal's Report

Working Bee
Thank you everyone - staff, students and parents for coming and helping us set up our new sheds. Our new PE shed looks amazing and so does the P&F shed. Luke Watters and Cam Walker worked tirelessly to unload our shelves and begin the big process of assembly. The shelves are commercial grade and will make the storage of equipment easily accessible.
Thank you to Sarah White, Mark Clancy, Yang Lzu, Adam Eaton, Flip McKinnon, Emily Harnett, Triet Giang, Jenni Eury, Mathew Wales and Bec Smith for signing in on our Volunteer induction sheet and dodging the rain to get our sheds operational. Without your support our students would be waiting a longer time to put in borrowing of PE equipment. We want to see lots of equipment being used and returned to the shed at lunch times. Until now tracking equipment and setting up a borrowing system for students has been difficult.
Permission Notes and Information
The corrected information and signed consent forms were due back at school last Thursday. If you have not already done so, please ensure these are returned tomorrow. It is important we have this information up to date so that we can keep students safe.
Cybersafety Parent Information Session
As an eSmart accredited school, teaching students to be responsible digital citizens is a priority. After feedback from parents around support in managing digital devices at home, we have employed BULLY ZERO to run sessions for students in Years 3-6, parents and teachers on Cybersafety. The parent session will include:
- Strategies for parents in a cyberworld
- Impact of electronics on children
- Different ways to encourage responsible digital device usage at home
We encourage all parents to attend this session as it will not only provide you with information and ideas but also help to reinforce the same message the students will receive in their information sessions. The Cybersafety Parent Information session is on the same night as the Senior Information Night as we are hoping to see as many parents from our senior school as possible. Many people believe we can never know too much about keeping ourselves and students safe online.
Date: Thursday 27th February 2020
Time: 6:30 – 7:30pm (Followed by Senior Information Night)
Location: School hall
Audience: All primary school parents
You will receive a notification on Sentral to confirm your attendance.
If you have any questions please see Amanda Nelson.
Year 1/2 Information Evening
What a treat to see the teacher skit make a return to the information evening. Thank you to all the parents who turned out to hear about our plans for 2020 for the Inquiry Centre. Specialist teachers gave a sneak peek into their programs and the Year 1/2 teachers highlighted areas they want parents and carers to know about. For the first time we had a meet and greet following the presentation where parents could mingle and chat to teaching staff too. Than you for all the positive feedback from parents and we look forward to the Senior Information evening on the 27th February.
Senior School Swimming Carnival
We pride ourselves on offering a comprehensive curriculum program which of course includes a full program of sporting events. Primary School's play in important role in giving all students opportunities to compete in events which are often only by a competitive selection process in later years.
It was particularly great to see students who are not as confident in the water 'giving it a go' and swimming the 25metres, relays and kick board races as well as the traditional stroke races. Everyone earnt points for their house and the atmosphere was electric with music and house chants of encouragement. Congratulations to Eugenie House for being the overall winner.
I congratulate Cassie Brisbane, Senior Staff and the amazing band of parent officials who helped out on the day!
Parent Helpers Course
It was great to see so many parents/carers attend the Parent Helpers course this morning. Thank you to Tania Hosken who runs our Reading Intervention Programs including MiniLit, MaqLit and also numeracy support programs for giving parents an opportunity to find out the structure of how to help in the classroom and practice some of the learning tasks that would be typically run in the class.
