PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parent and Guardians,

Reading

You may have wondered over the years what the school's preoccupation with reading is about. We are incredibly passionate about children and reading. This may have been a  frustration for you - as your child suddenly declares at bedtime, or as you are ready to leave for school,  that they have to read to you. It is likely that the need to read with you has interrupted your planned time on the internet, watching TV, doing chores or working.

Listening to audiobooks, watching videos (and all other device and screen activity) has been proven scientifically not to be as beneficial for the developing brain as reading is. So building brain capacity in children is based on reading. Therefore the more we do the more opportunity to develop those neural pathways that will likely build the adult success of your child.

I hope however that you may have discovered the joy of reading with and to your child. Helping them find new words to widen and enrichen their vocabulary and helping them understand the meaning behind the text (the implied and contextual understanding that our greater experience unlocks for us). Reading a novel as a serial to your children is a great way to settle heightened emotions or engage the bored or restless. Sitting together, exploring a wonderful imaginative world is a priceless experience. This opportunity passes far too fast as children grow. Please embrace the experience and read quality books to your children.

PRAYER

Loving Father,

I invite you into my life today

and make myself available to you.

Help me to become the best version of myself

by seeking your will and becoming a living example

of your love in the world.

Open my heart to the areas of my life that need to change

in order for me to carry out the mission

and experience the joy you have imagined for my life.

Inspire me to live the Catholic faith

in ways that are dynamic and engaging.

Show me how to best get involved in the life of my parish.

Make our community hungry for best practices

and continuous learning.

Give me courage when I am afraid,

hope when I am discouraged,

and clarity in times of decision.

Teach me to enjoy uncertaito become all you imagined it would be

for the people of our times.

Amen.
