Maths Family Fun Night Report

D. Lord

Last Monday, 12th August families from Year P-6 were invited to a Maths Fun Night in the Orange Learning Centre. The focus for the evening was to equip families with some simple games that they can play at home to consolidate students’ learning when they are not at school.  It also reinforced the idea that Maths is FUN and can be enjoyed by everyone.  It was a wonderful turn out, everyone enjoyed themselves having lots of Maths fun.  Thank you to our wonderful families that made the effort to attend and made the program a great success.  A huge 'shoutout' to our student presenters who put on their 'teacher hats' for the night!  They made their teachers and school very proud.  Well done!!

NAIDOC Celebrations Report

K. Cummings

On Monday 12th August the students from Year 2-6 celebrated NAIDOC Day.  NAIDOC Week is celebrated every year during the July school holidays. Each year NAIDOC day has an overarching theme and this year’s theme was

'Voice, Treaty, Truth. Let’s work together'.

During the morning we honoured and acknowledged our indigenous students and their families.  Through different activities we experienced and explored traditional Aboriginal dance, games, art and culture.  A number of members of our Indigenous community visited

our college and shared their knowledge, they are Cleonie Quayle, Uncle Peter Peterson, Uncle Willy Hanna and Billy Brimms.  We thank them for taking time to share this special day.  Thank you also to Josef Atkinson and the boys from the Mildura Senior College Clontarf program for coming along to help out and finally thank you to Ms Ogden-Brunell, Ms Richardson, Ms Cummings and Orion Hunt from our own school community.

Year 2-3 News

Year 4-5 Cooperative Team Challenge Report

R. Holy

Some of the Year 4-5 students participated in a cooperative team challenge last week. The two swimming groups had to design and create a sun smart outfit to wear to the beach.  As you can see there are a few future designers at Merbein. Not sure how the paper would hold up in the water though.

Audio Books Narrator Presentation Report

The Year 2-7 students were treated to a free presentation by artist Stig today.

Stig Wemyss is Australia’s most loved narrator of audio books for children and young adults.  He is the Author of The Tripp Diaries, an audio book series written specifically for audio. Stig narrates books by Andy Griffiths, Paul Jennings, Tim Winton and others.

His performances in libraries and schools around the country have become notorious with children and adults alike.  His shows are wildly entertaining, cleverly irreverent and chocked full of fun.
