Homework

Overview Term 3

The homework expectation is that you please read to, with (taking turns) or listen to your child read as often as possible - working towards every day if you can.

Marking reading completed at home in your child's yellow reading diary lets your child's teacher know how often you've been able to read and the types of books they've been enjoying.

As part of our evidence based approach to the teaching of reading, we will be using decodable books. You may find that the decodable reader is at an easier level than what your child can read, which allows them to experience success. These books are designed to specifically reinforce the concepts we teach in the classroom. This will help your child to read more extensive texts later in their school journey.

Each week your child will swap their decodable reader twice. We strongly encourage that you continue to read each reader more than once, along with any other reading material. Your child may like to listen to an adult or sibling read, or attempt another book by themselves. Your child will borrow a book from the school library each week which is another great source for you to re-use before returning in the following week.

At the end of Term 2, your child will have brought home a copy of the tricky words on orange paper that we had learnt so far. These are for your child to practise reading, writing or spelling at home as often as you'd like. Please keep in mind that this should be no longer than 10-15 minutes.

Please contact your child's teacher if you are experiencing any issues with this or have further questions.
