Year 8

When we look back on this time we will be amazed that within weeks, teachers, students and families learnt a new way of learning - something that, in normal times, would take months, if not years, to rollout. Added to that challenge we have all had to accept as our new normal, social distancing and self-isolation.

As much as our Year 8s are digital natives, we have asked them to embrace a new way of learning, when they are still learning how to learn.

The students, in partnership with our ICT team and teachers, have embraced Microsoft Teams, something normally reserved for their parents in their professional lives.

There are many proud teachers and staff as we see Year 8s regularly logging on with smiles wider than Luna Park. A couple of us would even admit to a few tears of joy!

To all our students, we are so proud of you. We celebrate you all. Thank you for having the courage to embrace new learning under the most challenging of times. You have, most definitely, got this.

As part of our kindness initiative, Year 8 students were invited to complete a postcard expressing their gratitude to radiologists at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. It was sent with the following message to Mr Brendan Carroll (parent of Erin Carroll in Year 9 at Kilbreda College) who is the Deputy Radiographer at the RMH:

Dear Brendan,

I hope this email finds you well.

I know that over the last few weeks work for you and your team has been challenging. Radiologists are really at the frontline. In recent times they have reported on hundreds of medical imaging studies on patients who either have proven or suspected COVID -19 infection. I know at times some of you have needed to come to patient’s bedsides as they are too sick in ICU. Each of these has been performed hands on by a radiographer directly in harm’s way. We want you to know that we see this as an act of courage and strength.

Below is a clip from our Year 8 students to show how grateful we truly are.

Brendan expressed his heartfelt thanks...

Hi Leah.

This is awesome and looks amazing!

Thanks so much for the students and yourself for taking the time to do this. I can assure you all the staff will be extremely appreciative to see such wonderful messages. I’ve just posted this on our workplace message site for all to see.

Well done.

Kind Regards,

Brendan
