Library

Twas the night before Term 2

And all through the House

Nothing was stirring,

Not even a mouse…

(which on reflection is rather good, I think, seeing as mice have been blamed in the past as plague carriers – and they also nibble books!)

Well, Term 2 certainly has been quieter than some others and I am sure that many of us have been expectantly opening the odd wardrobe or two in the hope that Narnia will appear for us to step into!

But there is a light still on in the Library.

eBooks and eAudio Books

Luckily we still have ebooks and audio books to lend which may transport us to other realms.  Last week I added a further ten audio books and 60 ebooks to the collection which you can access easily from https://kilbreda.wheelers.co/. The front page of the ebooks link has ready access to the new books we have added and also provides links straight to the books on the Premier’s Reading Challenge, which is a good place to go to find age appropriate ebooks.

Book Week 2020

Along with many other events Book Week has been postponed by the Childrens Book Council of Australia.  Luckily (a silver lining) this gives us longer to read the long list of books that are up for awards this year. The official new date for Book Week is now runs from 19 to 23 October and you can see the long list of books currently available as ebooks, so jump straight to the eBook platform and borrow them!  https://libguides.kilbreda.vic.edu.au/ReadersCafe/ReadOnline

New BOLD collection

  • BOLD as in large print
  • BOLD as in reading risky books full of subversive ideas
  • BOLD as in trying something new and exciting!

We have created and unveiled to an empty library, a new collection of 50 young adult large print books which complement our existing collection of books by the publisher Barrington Stokes.   This collection is a thing of wonder.  For many of us, myself included, who have had words fly around a page unbidden, these books may provide a way to engage with and actually FINISH a book!  The stories are not simple, but the type font is either large or in the Barrington Stokes books, set in such a way as to be ‘dyslexia friendly’.

You may recall an earlier Library News article where I pointed out the ‘dyslexia’ setting available down the bottom of the screen options in the ebooks. This is just a reminder that it exists!  I have a special interest in this area as I had great trouble wrangling words into my mind from the printed page as a young child.

Do you have a question?

We are here to help! Simple email us at library@kilbreda.vic.edu.au and we will get back to you within the day.

PS: I found this little fella hopping around the school yard recently, made sure to keep my social distance. He is now with his mate in the Library :)
