Inter-house Cross Country
On Wednesday we held the Secondary School Inter-house cross country carnival. It was a great morning out in the sun with so many of our girls giving their all for their house. As a result, there were some brilliant performances across all Year levels with a number of girls completing the 3km in less than 15 mins.
Our fastest performer on the day was Leila Johnson (Year 11) who completed the course in 12.07 mins, 2 mins faster than the nearest runner, well done Leila.
For a full summary of our top 10 performers in each Year level please see below.
A full summary of top performers, house achievements and the winning House will be published once results have been presented to the students.
Congratulations to the following girls who finished top 3 in their Year levels, a fantastic effort!

Based on the Inter-house cross country times, a squad has been selected to train for the QGSSSA Cross Country Championships held on Saturday 14 May at Rivermount College, Yatala. As such there are only 3 weeks left to prepare so all girls in the squad are encouraged to attend as many sessions as they can in the next few weeks.
Training
To assist in preparing for QG, there are a number of meets over the next three weeks. All girls in the squad should attend as many of these as they can. Full details for each will be uploaded to the College app each week. The meet schedule is as follows:
Autumn fixtures will continue with the same training and game schedule as posted on the College app. This week our teams travel to Ipswich for their fixtures and as such will depart school early. All girls are asked to get changed at lunch and be ready to leave at 2:45 pm. Please see the College app for full fixture details and approximate bus arrival times back at the College.
There has been strong interest in all 4 winter sports, Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Volleyball. If there are any new students or girls who have now decided to join a team, please see Jo or Bec in the Sports Office to be added to a list. Please ensure that you consider your current commitments and only sign-up if you can commit for the full season.
Pre-season will commence in Week 4 with 1 – 2 sessions for each sport before a full training schedule in Weeks 5 – 9 to prepare for fixtures played Saturday mornings of Term 3. Full details will be posted on the app and Croc Board by the end of Week 2.
Matilda Woodhead – Gymnastics Student Reporter
Despite having a fracture in her leg and being unable to compete in the QGSSSA Gymnastics competition late last month, Matilda Woodhead became a student reporter for the day and practised her journalism skills. She was armed with a camera and a clipboard of questions and became a roving reporter for our fantastic Gymnastics Team. She did an absolutely fantastic job and wrote the following article.
On Tuesday 29 March, Clayfield College hosted the annual QGSSSA artistic gymnastics! Clayfield did extremely well, and all the gymnasts performed the best they could, and everyone had a ball. It was great to see the Clayfield College army come to cheer on the girls competing and get to watch the action. Clayfield came away with a few wins, and all the girls should be really proud of that. Some of the gymnasts competing already do gymnastics outside school and have reached a very high level. We have some girls doing international competitions and other aspiring gymnasts in levels 6 and 7. These girls all enjoy competing and the joys that gymnastics brings. At the competition, the gymnasium's new renovations looked great and all of the girls; Clayfield and the other schools, really enjoyed the improved equipment. To top it off, ex-Olympian Georgia Godwin, St Aiden’s alumni came to the competition to cheer the girls on. This was amazing because Georgia is many of the gymnast’s hero. In essence, it was an exciting competition and Clayfield did exceptionally well!
Any girls who are interested in joining the academy, please read the attached information and application form and return it to Ms Barnes in Room 1 (Sports Office).
All sessions occur in the College PE Centre. The academy schedule is as follows:

Isabella McDonnell-Baum (Year 11)
Artistic Gymnastics Senior State championships
After nearly 12 months off from competition and with only a few months of full training following her knee surgery, Bella finished a very credible 4th overall in the Senior International division, which included a 2021 Olympian and members of the last world cup team. She won a bronze medal on vault and placed 5th on floor (after only training a full floor routine the week prior to states), bars and beam.
She still has a way to go but is looking stronger each week. Next step is the State team selection then hopefully to Nationals and the Commonwealth Games selections. We wish you all the best as you continue to recover and train for these upcoming events.

Abby Harris (Year 12)
Queensland Cricket
At the inaugural Queensland School Sport (QSS) 16-19 Years Female Cricket Championship recently held in Bundaberg, Abby Harris Year 12 representing Metropolitan North School Sport, produced several stellar performances throughout the championship. Mia Palmer (Year 5)
Far North Queensland Football Youth Cup
Over the school holidays, Mia participated in the Far North Queensland Youth Cup for Football in Cairns.
She played against U11 boys’ teams from all over Australia including Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Darwin and Cairns. It was a 3-day event, and her team was the only all-girls team that played.
Although they did not make the finals, they truly turned some heads even meeting the Socceroo's assistant coach, who was extremely impressed! Next stop Matildas!
Great job Mia!
