DIOCESAN CROSS COUNTRY REPORT

Last Friday, I had the privilege of supporting 18 students as they represented St Joey’s in Barraba for the Diocesen cross country.  For the first time in many years, each of the 24 primary schools in the Diocese was represented, resulting in anywhere in between 50-100 competitors for each race. Even though the students were competing against large numbers, our St. Joey’s team remained strong and optimistic, and the beautiful weather along with plenty of parent and sibling support made for a great day.

Congratulations to our student representatives: Troy Balint, Lily Brown, Marshal Cook, Dani Cortis, Alex Cortis, Bill Flett, Jorja Jamieson, Archie McNamee, DeeDee McNamee, Joel Morris, Hendrix O’Loughlin, Ayla O’Rance, Kendall O’Rance, Billie Peach, Zack Rawsthorne, Reuben Shaw, Hayden Stockwell and Sienna Thompson. These students represented our school extremely well and should be very proud of their efforts. I would also like to make a special mention of two students who performed extremely well in their age divisions: congratulations to Dani Cortis who came in 14th place in the 8/9 years Girls division; and congratulations to Archie McNamee who came in 13th place in the 12/13 years Boys division.

With some excellent results and an impressive number of students representing our school, we were also awarded Champion Small School of the day!

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our parents who supported the talents of these students by traveling to and from Barraba to enable our students to partake in this event. Without your support, participation in these events would not be possible; thank you.

Save The Date: School Athletics Carnival!

Our annual Athletics Carnival will be held at Longfield Park on Friday the 24th June (Week 9, Term 2). Permission notes for training sessions and the Athletics Carnival will be sent out soon, as well as requests for parent helpers for our carnival day.

School Sport Term 2

This term students will participate in school based athletics training in preparation for our carnival which is to be held at the end of the term. Students will have the opportunity to practise the skills needed for safe participation in athletics track and field events. Students will also be going over to Longfield Park for 2 practise sessions prior to the carnival on our normal sports day in Week 7 & 8.
