A Message from the Principal

Mrs Pauline Long

Dear Parents and Carers,

NAPLAN

Today our Year 3 students and Year 5 students completed the Writing component of the NAPLAN Assessments. Tomorrow we have scheduled the Reading and Language Assessments. The final Mathematics paper will be administered on Monday 16th May. These assessments are one tool for teachers to check individual student learning growth. As a school we also analyse the overall results to reflect on how well we are covering all aspects of the curriculum. We encourage all students to just do their best on the day. NAPLAN is only a snapshot of the work and learning your children do at school. Teachers monitor student learning daily through their everyday teaching, small guided groups and regular class assessments.

How can parents help? Please ensure your children have plenty of rest (a consistent bedtime routine will assist). Limit screen time and encourage regular reading. Provide a healthy breakfast and be on time for school. Having time to play before school helps students be ready for learning each day.

Cross Country

Thank you to the students, parents and Mrs Hofman for attending the Diocesan Cross Country last Friday in Barraba. I was pleased to hear how well our students represented our school and how hard they tried. At the end of the day, we were awarded a special trophy for the best combined result from a ‘Small School’. Congratulations to all our competitors for your part in this wonderful achievement.

COVID Protocols

We have had a number of staff members and students affected by COVID this term. Currently if a household member has COVID and your child has no symptoms he/she is able to attend school provided you conduct a daily Rapid Antigen Test and obtain a negative result. If you require more test kits please pop into the office to collect some. We are expecting another shipment soon, but we also have some left from our last batch. Thank you for your support with COVID protocols and I wish your family members a speedy recovery if anyone tests positive in your family.

Have a happy and safe week
