Uniform Update

As we begin Term 2 and approach the colder part of the year, we remind all students that we are now in winter uniform and the following expectations are part of the process.

Students are able to wear either blue tights or long white socks with their winter skirt.

Students can also take up the option of wearing the school pants but if they take up this option then they must wear an emblemed shirt as well.

No hoodies are part of the uniform – not under the PE uniform on the days they have PE.

PE uniform should only be worn on the days we have PE classes and should not be worn if you are not studying PE.

Uniform Update

As we begin Term 2 and the colder part of the year, we remind all students that we now wear the winter uniform and the following expectations are in place.

  • Students are to wear either the school skirt or the school pants. Students who wear the school pants must wear an emblemed shirt as well.
  • Students are able to wear either blue tights or long white socks with their winter skirt.
  • Hoodies are not part of the uniform. For example, they are not to be worn under the PE uniform.
  • PE uniform should only be worn on the days that students have practical PE classes.
  • Students who do not study PE are not to wear the PE uniform.

We have noticed a number of students who have returned from the holidays with false eyelashes or nails. We will be having uniform blitzes in the coming weeks to ensure that all students understand and follow the expectations in relation to our uniform policy.

We thank all of our families and students who have supported both the transition back to school in term 2 and who recognise that the uniform demonstrates to the community who we are as a school and what we stand for.

Health Concerns

We continue to be challenged by COVID and while in Australia we have returned to life that is almost back to normal we remind all members of our community that we should continue to practice the key aspects of health protection that we have learned over the last 2 years. This includes staying home and getting tested if you are feeling unwell or presenting any of the symptoms , for example, a runny nose or cough. Also continuing to practice good hygiene practices such as washing hands and using hand sanitiser frequently and not sharing items such as food utensils with others. We also remind you that winter is a challenging time of the year in relation to other infections such as influenza and other airborne diseases.

It is important that when sneezing do so into your elbow or a tissue. Wash hands when going to the toilet and before touching food. Also, as we share the school with another 900 people every day, it is also important that we are doing our best to stay healthy and keep our community safe as well.

Health Concern - Vaporing

We have been reminded by the Community Police again this year of a worrying trend for young people in our society in relation to having access and participating in vaporing.

This means that these students have access to the device or implement that is used for vaporing commonly described as e-cigarettes.

Our policies and processes are very clear about this issue. We view the use of this device and its use in the same way that we view smoking at school or in uniform. Hence, we remind you that any student found smoking or vaporing will be automatically suspended.

This will be reinforced at upcoming assemblies.

At the end of May we have organised for the Community Police to come and speak to our students about this issue as well as social media concerns. We value the input of the Community Police in helping our young people and supporting our community to address these issues.

Peer Support begins for Year 7’s.

With the beginning of term 2 – we begin our Peer Support Program with our Year 7’s.  We have a large number of  Year 10’s that we are have trained  and who are ready to support our youngest Year Level in feeling settled and supported in our school environment.

In later editions of the Marian, we will give you an insight into how the program is going.

Wellbeing

As we also approach Naplan and End of Semester exams we encourage our families to monitor their daughter’s in terms of the stress and concern that these activities cause many individuals.

Responses can vary from being quiet, tears to even changes in behaviour.

If you have any concerns in relation to this please do not hesitate in contacting your daughter’s homeroom teacher or Year Level leader so issues can be addressed and strategies be put in place to support each and every one of our students.
