Sport

What a term it was for Sport here at BMGS. Although the weather thwarted our best efforts in some areas, we were able to go ahead with many of our events and we had a number of highlights where our students put their best foot forward.

Australian Mountain Biking Interschools

A new event was introduced this term: The Australian Mountain Biking Interschools competition. This event was held at Thredbo and we had six Year 8 students attend as competitors, with Jasper Watson (Year 10) attending to document the event.

The students who competed were Finn Snedden, Liam Milroy, Oliver Rutherford, Otto Passlow, Dylan Robiliard and Oliver McMahon.

This group of young men represented our School valiantly and reports from the event have shown that clearly, a great time was had by all.  Following is a report by one of our competitors, Finley Snedden:

The Australian MTB Interschools Championships were held over five days at Thredbo with over 1400 students and 200 schools attending. The event was a great success and was very well organised by Thredbo. Over the 5 sunny days there were four events consisting of the Maxxis All Mountain Assault, the Fox Flow Motion Cup, the Oakley Cannonball Downhill, and the Osprey X-Country.

Oliver Rutherford was the fastest BMGS racer on the All Mountain Assault, but sadly couldn’t participate in the rest of the events because of an off-course injury. As he was the Captain of our team he was sorely missed.

Friday brought more BMGS students to participate in the Flow Motion Cup, bringing out Dylan Robillard, Otto Passlow and Oliver McMahon. Saturday was the main event, the “Cannonball Downhill”, and I was fortunate to record a record time of 8:35. Sunday was the last event where Liam Milroy was able to show his true colours in the X-Country event. This was enjoyed by both Otto Passlow and me as well.

All the boys showed amazing determination to make it down such a hard mountain. Thanks to the support of the parents who brought the students down and cheered us on. Thanks to the School who allowed us to participate and a special thanks to Mark Rutherford (Oliver Rutherford’s dad) for organising everything. All the boys are very keen for next year and are hoping to have all Year Groups represented - see you in 2023!

Finn Snedden, Year 8

We congratulate Finley on his excellent placing of 37th out of 351 students participating in his age division. The School is very proud of you, Finn!

We are already looking forward to next year and seeing more students attend.

PSSA Swimming Success

On Monday and Tuesday,  Kyah and Noah Erne attended the PSSA Swimming Carnival! This Carnival is for all primary students in NSW who have qualified and it is very rare to even get through to this event let alone to achieve a podium finish, which both Kyah and Noah did!

Kyah won bronze in the 50m butterfly and finished 4th in the 50m breaststroke. While Noah won four gold medals, an incredible achievement. This qualifies Noah to swim at Nationals in Brisbane in August!

Huge congratulations to both Kyah and Noah on these amazing results! We are so proud of you!

Thank You

On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who has been so supportive and helpful while I have filled in for Mrs Harris this term.

In particular I would like to thank Mrs. Hyslop, Mr. Hoffmann, Mr. Horwood, Mr. Laffin, and Year 12 students Scarlett Frosh and James Bell. Their knowledge, advice, wisdom, openness and willingness to share has been invaluable to me this term and has been greatly appreciated.

Thank you all.
