A Message from the Principal

Sovereign Hill was a fantastic experience for our Year 5 students. They embraced the costumes and characters of the 1800's during the Gold Rush era, following the rules and adapting to the customs of the time. The strict teacher, whom they called Marm, taught them to write with an ink pen, using traditional cursive script and they practiced their 12 and 16 x tables, helping them to understanding the imperial measurement. It was great to spend Thursday night and Friday with them, to experience the pantomime, gold pouring and classroom lessons. A big thank you to Rhett Masters, Andrew Brown and Julie Carroll for supporting them across the 3 days.

Last Saturday we were invited to the new Explorers Early Childhood Centre to promote our school and talk to the parents at the centre about starting prep at St John's. It was a great opportunity to share our new buildings and outdoor play spaces. It is a beautiful Centre and well worth a visit if you are looking for a new kindergarten or childcare centre.

Grandparents and Special Visitors Day

It was lovely to have so many Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Friends and Neighbours join us last Wednesday at school. It is always a special part of the school calendar and we loved hearing their unique stories, as they were interviewed by the students. The Mass was a wonderful celebration and the morning tea provided by the Community Association was greatly appreciated. Please read some of the student reflections on the Learning and Teaching page.

Enrolments for 2023

We are currently taking enrolments for Prep 2023. If your neighbours or friends would like a school tour for their child please encourage them to book in. If you have a child starting school next year please send in their enrolment form by the end of May, as places are filling fast.

Working Bee

The Term 2 Working Bee will be on Saturday 4 June at 12 midday. If you can spare a couple of hours to help spread some mulch, replenish the sandpit or pull some weeds, we would love to see you there. Remember that families who attend one working bee per year receive a $50- rebate on their school fees.

Covid Safe Plan

RATs will continue to be distributed to you as they have been throughout this school year for the remainder of this term. However, from Monday 23 May 2022, we do not recommend that your child complete a RAT twice a week as previously advised.

RATs will continue to be required by students who are household contacts to attend school (five negative tests over a seven-day period) or who have symptoms. The ongoing supply of RATs to families in our school will ensure that parents and carers have tests should they need them if their child is a household contact or has symptoms.

Families must continue to notify the Department of Health and the school if their child returns a positive RAT result. Additionally, you should inform us if any of your children are household contacts.

Thank you to all families who have gotten their child vaccinated. Vaccination continues to remain the best way to protect students and staff in our school. Getting vaccinated is easy and bookings can be done via the Department of Health’s website  https://portal.cvms.vic.gov.au.  If you have any questions about the vaccines, I encourage you to speak to your GP or a health practitioner.

Thank you again for your ongoing cooperation and support during this time.

STEM Jokes of the week

Why did the computer sneeze?
Because it had a virus!
Why did the biologist break up with the physicist?
Because they had no chemistry.
What do protons and life coaches have in common?
They know how to stay positive.

Have a fabulous Week!
