NAPLAN

May 10th - May 20th 2023

NAPLAN moves to ONLINE

This year, our Year 7 and Year 9 students will be completing NAPLAN Online. The National Assessment Program- Literacy and Numeracy will be conducted between Tuesday 10th May and Friday 20th May. NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.

All students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN Online tests. Catch up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days up to and including Friday 20 May 2022.

Support can be arranged for students with disabilities, if the student regularly uses similar support for classroom assessment tasks.

Exemptions may be granted to students with significant intellectual disabilities and to students who have been learning English for less than one year. If your child is eligible for support due to disability or exemption, please make contact with me via email at nicole.pallot@education.vic.gov.au and someone will be in touch to discuss this further.

Parental consent is required before any support due to disability or exemption is granted.

Students may be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer. This is a matter for consideration by parents and carers in consultation with the principal. If, after consultation, you decide to withdraw your child, you must sign a student withdrawal form. These forms are available from the House Offices and Reception from the beginning of Term 2.

For each test session, students will need:

  • A charged device i.e. laptop (limited devices will be available for loan during each test session)
  • Charger
  • Pens and/or pencils for notes, planning and working out
  • Headphones (required for all tests except reading)

Later in the year you will receive your child’s personal NAPLAN report. The report will describe your child’s particular skills in reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards. These describe the minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia.

We are confident that the information you receive as a result of your child’s participation in the NAPLAN tests will be valuable in helping you to assess your child’s progress in literacy and numeracy.

Further information can be accessed through the NAPLAN website.
