Principal Report

Ms Jenni Hodgins

A great start to 2022

Despite a few challenges, we've had a great start to 2022 and finally have a sense of retuning to a stable state. It has been great to welcome our returning students back to Mount Erin College as well as our new students. Our House structure has provided a supportive transition for our Year 7 students and their families. Our House Leadership Teams and House Support Officers (HSOs) have been very active in communicating with and supporting our new students and families to have a positive transition to secondary school.

Term One Highlights

Although we had COVID restrictions still in place, we managed to conduct a number of our regular activities during Term 1. We had a return to sporting carnivals and events. Our students had the opportunity to participate in our College Swimming Carnival held at The Pines pool. It was really positive experience for all involved and we are looking forward to it being a whole school event in 2023 at a new venue.

Week 8 was busy with our Open Night followed by the Debutante Ball. Both were fantastic evenings that shone a spotlight on our talented students and teachers. Thank you to all who made these events a success.

The last week of Term 1 saw many celebrations of our students' success. The Principal's Morning Tea recognised students who achieved Bronze, Silver or Gold Aspire Awards. Our Year 9 students showed off their passion projects that they completed in the Year 9 program this term. The Cross Country fun run/walk allowed many students to challenge themselves physically and achieve success.

Flood Damage

Unfortunately, in the middle of Term 1, many of our classrooms and office spaces were severely damaged by floodwaters resulting from a heavy downpour. Extensive work has been done by the Department of Education's contractors, however we are still yet to have 7 classrooms fixed and reinstated for use.

As always, the MEC students and staff have been very supportive of each other in managing this disturbance.
