Creating a pH indicator

Year 9B Science Experiment

9B have recently investigated acids and bases using a pH indicator made from boiling a cabbage. The pH indicator they made told them whether everyday items they use like toothpaste and lemons are an acid or a base, as well as how acidic or basic it is. They judged their decisions based on the color changes the cabbage water made with the items. An indicator is typically a chemical that changes color if it comes in contact with an acid or a base.
