Christmas Giving at St Pius X College

Our Christmas Giving for 2021 is well underway. Thank you to those families who have already sent in goods for us to donate to organisations working with those on the margins. Please ensure that you are aware of the items required by year group so that we can assist as many in need as possible.

Remembrance Day

Last Thursday our community stopped to commemorate Remembrance Day. Our live- streamed event ensured that each member of our community understood the loss and significance of this day in the Australian landscape. It was noted that the War Memorials that we see today in each suburb and town provides a place to lay flowers and remember lost loved ones who we posted as missing – no date of death, no place of death not even a body to bury, simply missing.

The details of The Ode, Last Post and The Rouse were made apparent, as were the traditions of laying wreaths and flowers burial sites. Year 11 students of Modern History led our service, along with Anthony Elliott who played The Last Post and The Rouse for the lowering and raising of our National Flag. It was both a moving and educational service for all of the community to take something away from.

Founder's Day

In the coming weeks each year group from Years 5 to 9 will attend Oxford Falls for the day in an effort to mark the day of our Patron Blessed Edmund Rice, as well as to better understand the Mission of St Pius X College and what provides us with our Identity. As a community we have many long standing relationships, these relationships are strengthened and made known during our Year 10 Immersions and Founder's Day – both events that we have not been able to run in recent years. These distinct days will open students' eyes to the communities we have relationships with, how we support these communities and how this support provides St Pius X College with the opportunity to authentically live by the ideals of the Spirituality of Blessed Edmund Rice. Ultimately students will be aware of where funds from our Founder's Day goes and about how they can be involved through our Christmas Giving and Year 10 Immersion Program.

From Our Lady of Dolours Parish

This Christmas let’s follow Mary’s example of saying ‘Yes’ to God. The following is one way you might respond with your 'Yes':

We would like all parishioners; families, school classes, parish groups, group of friends and individuals, to participate in sharing the Christmas Spirit by recording a short Christmas greeting, Christmas carol or photographing a Christmas art piece and sending it to us. All abilities welcome!

We will collate and share the compilation of our collective efforts via our Parish YouTube channel. This is a new way of reaching out to family and friends who may be in a nursing home or at home and unable to join us, for our regular Christmas Celebrations.

Please send your video to Katya or Josef via: chatswoodoffice@bbcatholic.org.au before Sunday 5 December 2021.
