Contributing to the Education Community – Congratulations Sherry and Sheridan
Samantha Gooch, Director of KITE
Congratulations to Sherry Chen for her presentation at the International Conference on Community and Heritage Languages Education, facilitated by the Sydney Institute of Community Languages Education at the University of Sydney.
Sherry is a passionate languages teacher and works across the Junior and Senior School. In Massie House, she works collaboratively with teachers to enrich the classroom programs for students who have English as additional language, with a focus on supporting vocabulary development in reading, writing and oral expression.
Sherry presented on her use of a bilingual approach to support our additional language learners in the mainstream classroom. Participants at the conference commented on Sherry’s generosity in sharing her practice and expertise.
We also congratulate Year 5 teacher Sheridan Sweeney, who has been successful in her application to join Cohort 2023 as a research fellow in the Global Research Collaborative on Girls’ Education. Sheridan will commit to an action research project over the next year and a half (2022/23), working with a research mentor and exploring ideas, programs and innovations that aim to impact girls’ education. Her focus will not only be on the Kambala context, but beyond. We wish her all the best for her induction into the program, which will begin at the end of November.
It is wonderful to see Kambala staff contributing their rich knowledge and experience to the broader education community.
