Rainy Days and Yummy Food in Boarding

Joanne Sarmiento, Director of Student Residential Life

The rain has definitely left us feeling a little claustrophobic in Boarding, with many of our outside activities contained to indoor fun. It certainly hasn’t dampened spirits.

There have been many games on the oval after dinner, with lots of fun and laughter as our year winds down towards the summer holidays. Tivoli girls have helped decorate our Christmas tree and did some final farewells to our Year 12 sisters. They are getting very close to the end of their exams. Each day another exam finishes and our Year 12s draw closer to saying goodbye to their school days.

The girls have been experimenting with some crafts, and top of the list seems to be creating pom poms, with one of our Year 7s taking on the challenge of making a blanket from pom poms. In Tivoli, we are all reading Wai Chim’s book, The Surprising Power of a Good Dumpling. We’re looking forward to a dumpling feast at the end of the year to celebrate the cultural heritage of the author and her characters in the book.

Our visitors this week included Ms Gooch and her dog Obi. They came to visit and give much needed doggy hugs and also some fun decorating ice cream cones, and then of course, filling them with ice cream. What a treat! Thank you Ms Gooch.

Year 10s in Fernbank have also been busy cheffing, with gingerbread houses and Christmas shortbread all on the activities list this week. Everyone loves cooking!

On Sunday, Ms O’Brien also continued the culinary theme with scone making. Ms O’Brien reports:

The rainy Sunday weather wasn't going to get in the way of the Tivoli Boarders having some fun! And what better way to spend the afternoon than by baking some yummy homemade scones. The girls donned their chefs hats, pulled up their sleeves and embraced the cooking challenge with enthusiasm and appreciation.
Flour, butter, milk and sugar...with a dash of Kambala Boarder 'love' and ... you have some delicious scones! Served with strawberry jam and whipped cream – it was a delightful Devonshire Tea enjoyed by all!

As we reach the end of the year, we will be looking forward to catching up with our families again. Please note the Parents of Boarders casual function has been advertised for 6 December. An email has been sent to families from Lucy and Kate regarding the details of the event.
