Junior Chess Team Senior Chess Team
Congratulations to our Chess players.
Open Division: First Place - Mazenod College
28 schools, 180 players from WA, TAS, SA and VIC.
Mazenod College First Place - 22 points
The 22 point team score in chess is the individual scores from our best four players added together.
St Michaels Grammar 2nd - 20.5
Perth Modern 3rd - 20.5
Individuals: Many good players from many schools. We were the only school with 4 finishing in the top 25.
Jackie Li (Yr 9) 1st overall, 7 wins from 7 games
Christopher Hermawan (Yr 10) 15th, 5 wins
Duleesha Gunaratne (Yr 11) 20th, 5 wins
Chris Boey (Yr 8) 23rd, 5 wins
Middle Years (7-9) Team: a fourth-place which is remarkable – due to our depth.
14 schools from three states and regional Victoria.
The best three players were in the Open team NOT the middle years' team. (Jackie Li, Chris Boey, Khoi Do)
Another two played volleyball, not chess. (Pat Klonis, Hugh Fagan)
The remaining ten players managed to fight it out for fourth.
Individuals:
Ryan Peiris (Yr 9) 13th overall. 5 wins from 7 games.
Bradley Susanto (Yr 8) 19th overall. 5 wins.
