Wellbeing

Farewell to our Wellbeing Leaders Ally & Sam.

Thanks to Fun Zone Kids.

Thanks to Raf and Em and Happy Holidays!

Throughout this year I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with Ally and Sam, our Year 6 Wellbeing leaders. They often gave up their recess time to meet with me to plan school events and plan their visits to support the children in the junior playground. Chatting with the younger children about being Bucket Fillers and keeping an eye out for children who needed a bit of social support, kept Sam and Ally busy. Then COVID came!

Sam and Ally continued in their role as leaders, sharing their remote learning experiences through this newsletter. Now it’s time to say ‘Goodbye’ to them as they leave OLHC for Secondary School.

Please enjoy their final words...

Being a Wellbeing Leader was such a fun role here at OLHC because I got to organise activities for you all and teach you all about bucket filling and coming to the junior yard with the bucket for a chat. I had so much fun helping and speaking at assemblies.

Even though we weren’t here for a lot of the year, the time I got to spend as a Wellbeing Leader I feel I’ve had an amazing time. I hope you had some fun with the things like SWELL groups at the start of the year, learning about bucket filling, SWELL Art, Day for Daniel and the 16 Days of Activism.

I wish the Wellbeing Leaders for next year a great time and that they also learn lots.

Goodbye from Ally

Wellbeing Leader 2021

Sadly this will be my last well-being report to you. I would like to start by saying what a pleasure it has been to be your 2021 Well-being leader. I have had such a good time. Being able to speak at assembly has been a life-changing experience, because you can’t hide in a back corner. You are out there in the middle for everyone to see.

Bucket filling is an important part of a students wellbeing and I would like the 2022 Well-being leaders to keep on doing their part in keeping the Bucket filling spirit alive. During remote learning I didn’t have much of a chance to do what we have done during the normal assembly on a Monday morning but I have had an amazing experience.

Meetings with Mrs Holmes have taught me a lot about what we as students can do to make other people’s lives and days better. Finally I would like to wish the 2022 Well-being leaders (whoever you are) all the best in their time as a leader of the school.

Thanks and goodbye from Sam.

Final passive play

The year is coming to a close as we will soon celebrate Christmas with our families and enjoy a holiday break. However, we need to continue to look after our own wellbeing and also the wellbeing of others. What can we do?

Earlier in the year between our two lockdowns we had a wonderful team of Year 3/4 children supporting the Junior children with weekly ‘Fun Zone’ activities. This took a little bit of planning but mostly a kind spirit, a team and some enthusiasm. I would like to thank this team for looking after the wellbeing of others and each other, as they went about this project. Let’s hope ‘Fun Zone’ returns in 2022.

A BIG thank you also must go to Emily and Raf from Year 5, for their ongoing  support of Passive Play sessions and the 16 Days of Activism indoor sessions. Em and Raf’s reliability and contribution has been outstanding as they supported me in setting up and packing up each session. Thanks enormously Em & Raf!

SWELL Groups 8 & 9 were finally able to attend their long awaited Art sessions with Jen and Faith. It took about 3 terms but the children finally had their chance!

A HUGE thank you to Jen and Faith for this wonderful opportunity for all children in all classes to participate in SWELL Art. I’ve heard a ‘whisper’ that Jen & Faith may return to work with us next year. How lucky are we!

Please enjoy the following photos of SWELL Art, my visit to the 3/4s to listen to their stories about Respect and Gender Equality and the last session of Passive Play incorporating the 16 Days of Activism.

Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and holiday break. I certainly look forward to a happy family Christmas and many opportunities to swim in the surf.
