Community Garden and outdoor play Update

Our outdoor learning spaces are complete with our community garden and beloved chickens.

The Community Garden is our outdoor classroom

During gardening last week the grade 1’s and 2’s created insects and mini beasts using play dough and items found in the garden. The students used drawings they had made in term 1 of the different creatures the had found in the garden to help them with their models.  They made sure that the creatures had the correct number of legs and wings and any other features they had noticed. The results were simply delightful!

Last week in the garden the grade 5 and 6 elective class started making decorated concrete stepping stones to continue the path through our native garden area.  This is a project that will continue over the next few weeks to ensure even has a chance to participate.  While some students were working with the concrete, others were building a new plastic pot storage area from repurposed pallets, others took on the challenge of removing two very stubborn star pickets from deep in the ground and other students helped move the compost into the garden beds to get the gardens ready for planting our winter crops.  Well done our gardening team all your work makes a huge difference!
