Family Learning Centre Update
May 2021
HELLO EVERYONE
What an artistic and busy month we’ve had!
We have been preparing for National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week. We are trying to be a braver children’s service and we have begun our RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan).
To recognize Sorry Day, we will be hanging a banner in the Family Centre. We have had lots of discussions with the children about saying sorry and what it means to Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal People.
Regular readers may remember the Family Learning Centre were the recipients of a wonderful donation from the Kane the Builders, the Developers and the owners of the new GMHBA Building in Moorabool Street. We named the Crane used to construct the tower and in appreciation received the donation.
After much deliberation and looking at all the priorities to enhance our wonderful centre we have plumped for a new Childcare Eating area. The design might look like a beautiful Italian Piazza when it is finished and at the weekend the slabs will be laid to ensure the children have a nice steady platform for their eating and play space.
Come back for the next issue when hopefully the area will be finished and in use. CHOW!
They are free and really helpful to our new Australian families.
Hello playgroupers and friends
May at the Family Centre has been a hectic one – so much activity this often sunny autumn! What a joy to see so many excited and energetic children racing into through the Family Learning Centre doors even on chilly mornings to join their friends at playgroup, childcare and kinder programs each day
The aim of National Families Week is to celebrate the vital role that families play in Australian society.
National Families Week is a time to celebrate with your family, make contact with your extended family and friends, and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community. It is a time to celebrate the meaning of family and to make the most of family life.
The enduring theme is ‘Stronger Families, Stronger Communities’.
This theme continues to highlight the important role families play as the central building block of our communities and deliver the message that community wellbeing is enhanced by family wellbeing.
National Families Week is a perfect time to reflect on the critical role that families play in teaching, supporting and nurturing children especially as they grow.
Whether you are a first-time mum or new dad, or young parent returning to school, or maybe juggling work, as well as playgroup, childcare, Kindergarten and school routines, parenting is a great joy, but it can also be challenging keeping up with their pace. Children are naturally inquisitive and full of energy and activity. You can’t fill them up with quick enough hugs and smiles, love and laughter.
Some ideas to celebrate and promote your own ‘National Families Week’ activity at home are:

an educational music experience where children learn the concepts of beat, rhythm, tempo, pitch and dynamics in a play based environment.
Jo is our music facilitator, keep things fresh and fun by exploring a new theme each week and using a wonderful array of props, puppets, costumes and percussion instruments to deliver a multi-sensory experience that sees your child engaged and entertained for the whole session.
Through regular participation, children will also benefit in the following areas:
It would be wonderful to see many families come to our P-8 Campuses to see our 2021 Prep students at their learning. The tours start at 9.30 and at 10.15 a cup of tea or coffee can provide answers to any questions that parents / carers of 2022 Prep children may have about starting school at Northern Bay .
Community Hubs activities specifically support migrant and refugee women, pre-school children and their families.
Parents and children enjoy new social supports and friendships, as well as sharing of practical information about health, nutrition and child development and well-being.
Importantly for our multicultural playgroup supports parent and child bilingual language development and provides fun and friendly early learning experiences that promote positive pathways to kindergarten and primary school.
