This issue's page banner  features student leaders from across the College who participated in the inaugural College Anzac ceremony at the RSL in Rose Avenue, Norlane. This ceremony was the first time that each of our campuses and learning streams had come together to honour Anzac Day in our local area. Normally campus student representatives would have attended the Geelong School Ceremony at Johnston Park but this was cancelled for COVID restrictions. This resulted in a rethink which we believe is a great outcome for the community and should start our own annual tradition for the years to come. Northern Bay will still attend future Geelong Schools events and the Rose Avenue ceremony will be our local recognition of the day.

Goldsworthy Build Update

The college has been working closely with the Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) and our Architects on the Concept Plan for the Goldsworthy building project. This stage requires extensive work in estimating costs for the planned construction and generates a detailed cost plan that essentially outlines what can and cannot be achieved within the budget allocated. At this point of the process we are confident that the project will deliver a number of new buildings, with extensive refurbishment of at least one building wing.

This project will ensure all Northern Bay College students will receive their education in purpose-built learning facilities that reflect 21st Century design in learning and teaching spaces.

 The Concept Plan provides detail on building works that make up our final project. At this point in our planning the building works at Goldsworthy Campus will be inclusive of:

  • A newly built classroom wing with access to internal and external spill-out learning spaces;
  • A newly built Performing Arts facility that include indoor and outdoor performing spaces;
  • Extensive refurbishment of the existing Technology wing that will see this space transformed into a classroom wing providing for technology subjects including Food Technology and Textiles as well as Art rooms and Music rooms
  • A newly built Administration / Reception with staff work and administrative areas that will house Campus based support staff, administration staff and staff facilities including  meeting room facilities;

We now look forward to the next stage of our project which is the detailed design phase. This stage will invite and require input and ongoing feedback from our key stakeholders. The end result of this phase of the project is a detailed plan for our new facilities.

Along with the work in scope for the current upgrade project, the VSBA will provide an overall Master Plan that will highlight additional capital improvements for the campus, subject to future funding.

These are all exciting steps in the transformation of our Goldsworthy

Campus Values Workshops

It was wonderful to see 2020 graduates / 2021 trainees Jack Hall and Jessie Blackney introduce the work on the student free day on 14 May. Beginning with the Tallis Campus, Jessie and Jack led students through workshops to collect their thoughts and ideas of what makes our school a special place and a school where they feel confident that they can achieve great things. Using these contributions from students and adding our own as a staff group we used the Professional Learning Day to identify our ongoing purpose and reconsider our school values as we move into our second decade as Northern Bay College.

Here is a 4 minute video of the students sessions. Just a note to listeners some students talk quietly and the music plays normally so some adjusting will be necessary to get best effect.

This Professional Learning Day also gave us the opportunity to celebrate that Northern Bay College was officially accredited as a school in 2011 and has now enjoyed 10 years of supporting the learning and development of many hundreds of students in the decade.

We thank all families for their support of our Pupil Free - Professional Learning Days. These opportunities contribute so positively to our work to increase the quality of our programs for all students at our college.

Many of you, our families, students and friends may recall one or two of the events or moments from the 10 years portrayed in this 10 minute video

Privacy and Information Sharing

A reminder to parents and carers that Northern Bay College collects, uses, discloses and stores student and parent personal information to support and enhance our students’ educational experience.

For further information please view our Digital Learning Statement and Privacy Collection Statement available from

These documents outline the legal guidelines of what we do as a school to keep students safe, engaged in learning and tracking of their progress. Confidentiality and privacy legislation governs all that we do.

Student Attendance

One of our key targets this year is Student Attendance. To bring the importance of consistent attendance into focus eh follow scenario is offered - If a student is to miss one day of school per fortnight this will mean that by the end of Year 12 they would miss the equivalent of one and half years of education.

This clearly is detrimental to overall learning outcomes and future prospects for employment pathways or further study.

Logically teachers and families can have a great impact in supporting our students to recognise the importance of being at school every day, on time, ready to learn. We urge all families to reaffirm the importance of consistent attendance with their children on a daily basis

The Skyline Foundation Reception

The Skyline Foundation exists to support VCE students, who have high ability or are gifted and/or academically talented become resilient leaders aiming to empower VCE students to thrive through education and personal growth in a caring community. As we are all aware the Skyline Foundation supports many of our own students here at Northern Bay.

Recently, at the Skyline Annual reception Jonny Kelly and Kami Jaan were featured as guest speakers - sharing aspects of their journey and of the support they are provided by their companion teachers. As you would imagine both students did a fantastic job in representing the College. We remain tremendously grateful to organisations such as Skyline who support our work in ensuring our students have high aspirations within their learning

NBC Athletics Carnival

The College Athletics Carnival held in the first week of term really was such a wonderful day. This is one of those unique events where we all come together from our five Campuses to be as One College. It was so fantastic to see staff from across the college cheering for, supporting and getting to know students and colleagues from across all campuses. This undeniable recognition that we are one and belong together is something to cherish and celebrate and is generated by the intrinsic desire of us all to see ourselves One Team. Apart from this obvious positive aspect of the day the attitude and performance of the students is something we should be so proud of - with house spirit reigning supreme and college records falling by the minute we are so fortunate to work with such a great group of young people.

NBC Library Resources

Northern Bay College has a strong history of providing students with library resources to support their learning. However, there are a substantial number of overdue library books which is reducing our ability to do this effectively.

To help our students have the resources they need when they need them, could parents please support us by returning all library books (regardless of the length of time overdue) to your campus library.

Please note there are no costs associated with overdue books, however, costs can be incurred to replace lost books

Parents of students with overdue books can expect updates via email to remind students to return overdue library books. Parents who don’t know where the resources are can get in touch with their campus librarian or the Library Manager (Goldsworthy).

If you are unsure how many loans you have please visit your campus librarian who is happy to assist you. You can also manage your own library borrower profile using our new Accessit Web App via NBC Portal via Other Links and Library Search log in using your NBC login.

Story Box Library

We are delighted with the popularity of our online resource Story Box Library which has been welcomed by our students, teachers and families from our Early Learning Centre through to Goldsworthy Senior Campus. Please note this is a resource available to our whole community and can also be found on our NBC Portal via Other Links and Library Search (Log in using your NBC login) and click on the logo OR via this link: https://storyboxlibrary.com.au/  (Password: NBC & username: NBC).

A night at the Opera

II had the great fortune to join ten of our IMPACT students at the Opera on Sunday 16 May.

Through the Northern Bay College Challenge board, these Year 9 Arts Pathways elective students were invited to their first Opera.  Macbeth at the final dress rehearsal. I had both the privilege to drive the students and to experience first hand their pre and post thoughts. Check out The Programs page for some student feedback.

The Quest

In this newsletter we have a special page for students to fuind out some campus trivia. If parents / carers read this please support your children to check the QUEST page

Prep 2022 Open Morning.

It would be wonderful to see many families come to our P-8 Campuses to see our 2021 Prep students at their learning. The tours start at 9.30 and at 10.15 a cup of tea or coffee can provide answers to any questions that parents / carers of 2022 Prep children may have about starting school at Northern Bay .
