State Swimming

Last Thursday nine swimmers competed in the State School Swimming at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. Monivae had three individual swimmers, Josh Jellie, Stella Raymond and myself, and two relay teams.  The Boys 18-20 freestyle relay consisted of Josh Jellie, Bailey Borgmeyer, Harrison Hein and Jake Hausler and the Girls 18-20 freestyle relay consisting of Emily Jellie, Annabel Kent, Ashtyn Mottram and myself. The boys relay team placed 6th overall swimming with a time under two minutes and the girls team placed 6th overall which is a great effort by both teams. Congratulations to Stella for her efforts in the 50m Breaststroke where she placed 4th only missing out on placing by 0.33 seconds. Also well done to Josh for placing 5th in 50m Backstroke, 7th in the 50m Freestyle and 6th in 50m Breaststroke. Overall, congratulations to everyone who competed for your efforts on the day and in all the training which clearly paid off. Thank you to Miss Keath and Chelsea Crane for running trainings and getting us ready for the day. It was great to see so many students compete and the event being held, unlike last year.

House Cross Country

Tuesday morning saw the whole school descend on Lake Hamilton Parkrun track to compete in the annual House Cross Country. The weather was perfect and energy was high at the start/ finish line with the 5km runners.  It was great to see most of the students putting in effort and having a go at the 3km and 5km run.

Angus Kissel made great time, being the first 3km runner over the line, followed closely by Year 7 Matilda Mason as the first girl. Steven Cunningham, Year 12,  took line honours for the 5km runners.

Runners who have qualified for the Glenelg Division Cross Country were emailed today, and asked to keep an eye on their emails as I am waiting on details of the GD. This year it is being run in Hamilton. Due to the Cadet Camp and Yr. 10 Work Experience, I will be sending emails to the students and their parents, as the GD XC is on Monday 10th May.

Congratulations to those students who won their respective age groups. These names will be announced at the next Assembly in 2 weeks.
