Residential Manager Report

What a weekend it was...

Residential Camp

An update on the Peaceful Bay Camp.  What a weekend it was, with 54 students and 6 staff (including kitchen staff) enjoying the ‘glamping’ more than camping.  Students fished, swam and played beach cricket and just generally enjoyed each other’s company.

During the evening the students were singing around the campfire, much to the delight of the other campers.  Our new students and student council members were fine examples of the young people that choose to attend the College.  Well done everyone!

Harvey Sports Carnival

Four Agricultural Colleges participated in the Carnival, Cunderdin, Harvey, Narrogin and Denmark, though not all events had all Colleges involved. Fourteen events were offered overall - Indoor Cricket, Mixed Netball, Squash, Basketball, Fishing, Frisbee Golf, Ten Pin Bowling, Lawn Bowls, Triathlon, Touch, Volleyball, Croquet, Tennis and Table Tennis.

Denmark won the Frisbee Golf, Ten Pin Bowling, Volleyball and Table Tennis tournaments. Well done teams. A dinner was held at the Harvey Ag College on the Saturday night.

Wagin

Residential staff and students set off at 5am in preparation for both competition and support roles at Wagin Woolarama.  Our students represented the College very well and we came home with an array of prizes.  I was very pleased that so many students attended the show to support their peers.

Lost Property

We have an accumulation of lost property in the College Laundry. As this is now growing, despite requests for students to claim articles, we request parents urge their child to visit the staff in the laundry to assess what is there and claim items. If your child tells you they need an item of clothing, please check with the laundry first.

Ant Plague

We are requesting parents to please supply their child with a sturdy plastic container with a tight fitting lid in which to store food in dorms. The weather conditions have resulted in a plague of ants which we need to bring under control. Thank you

REMINDER - No Aerosols

A reminder to everyone that aerosols are banned at the College.

Students will be taking any home at the end of term, but if they return with them they will be disposed of.

REACH

Students have now been given their username and password and can submit leave for parents to approve.  We still have some students who are not using REACH due to outdated phones etc. However, you can log on through a College computer and use a browser to access REACH.

Parents, if you are having issues with the App, please log on through your browser and/or approve via the email you receive, once your child has submitted a leave request.

Please note….I will not approve last minute leave.  Please have your leave organised prior to the weekend.

Tutoring & Homework Help

There is a Facebook group that you can join to access local tutor information.  Please contact the College if you would like more information regarding this.

Laundry

Our laundry staff have made a request that students take their clothing to the laundry in small lots every day rather than accumulating their washing.  Students are overfilling their underwear bags, which is causing multiple issues for the laundry staff.  Could parents please remind their child to be respectful of the ladies and turn their washing in the right way, socks etc. and sort it into the bags provided in the laundry.  Carol and Nang do an amazing job in the laundry so all reminders to students by parents would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Clothing without name tags will be displayed on the table for collection when the laundry is staffed, otherwise it will be packed away until the following shift.  A record of lost clothing is kept in the laundry.  If students have lost an item of clothing, please report it to the laundry staff.

College Uniforms

Second hand clothing is available in the laundry and via our Facebook group WACoA Denmark – Buy and Sell – Second-hand uniforms https://www.facebook.com/groups/2071826593049546.

Check with our laundry ladies if you need to change sizes of clothing before buying anything new.  We welcome donations of the College uniform (in good condition) as students leave the College.

Health & Wellbeing

The College continues to provide support to students requiring doctors and other health related appointments. Where possible these appointments are made outside of school hours to minimise disruption to the school program. For any follow up appointments with specialists the College asks parents and carers where possible to make these during school holidays.  Please contact the College if your child has any medical imaging needs before appointments are made in Albany.

When students are ill in residence the College will provide immediate care and will arrange necessary medical appointments. To minimise the spread of illness all students who are unwell are required to remain in their rooms/medical centre, eat after all other students and minimise contact with other students until recovered. If students are unable to participate in the learning program for more than one day the College will contact families to discuss alternative care arrangements.

Travel Arrangements

The College will organise travel arrangements (bus tickets) for home weekend and end of Term. Please advise the school or your child of the travel arrangements required for the end of Term1.  The College will book outward travel, the return ticket is to be booked by the parent/guardian and must be booked to arrive early afternoon preferably into Denmark; late arrival will incur a pick up fee if the student is arriving into Albany by the College of $100.00. All other travel arrangements throughout the term are to be arranged by the parent/guardian.

Medication

Reminder for all parents and students -  we require students to hand in any medication that they have to residential staff; medication is recorded, stored and administered from the residential office.

Reminders
