Last Friday the 19th of March, Monivae had 35 swimmers compete in Horsham at the GWR competition. It was a successful day in both individual events and relays with many students placing and receiving medals. The huge effort put in by the swimmers during the lunch time training sessions and during the day was evident with Monivae coming 1st overall on the day which is a great effort by the whole team. The individual events were swum well with Josh Jellie, Stella Raymond and myself all placing first in our respective races and therefore heading to states next term. Joining them will be the two 18-20 Freestyle relay teams who worked hard as a team to achieve this outstanding outcome. The great results of the day wouldn’t have been achievable without our lunch time training sessions which evidently benefited the swimmers. Thank you to Miss Keath and Chelsea for running the sessions and also to Sarah and Mrs. Rowe for their efforts towards this event. Well done and congratulation to all swimmers who competed on the day and good luck to those who have made it to states.

On Sunday the 21st of March, we had the senior girls XI cricket game against Hamilton College. The team was filled out by a lot of the juniors from our school.  They all put in an amazing effort and gave their all. It was a fun morning with two wickets by Georgia Trotter and a run out from the ballers end from Charlie McLean. Top scores were Alicia Eats and Aisha Hendriks, and the rest of the girls were able to bat out the overs. Other honourable mentions include Emily Tonnison’s clean catching (one from a no ball) and the best balling figures coming from Sophie Taylor with 0 for 5 off 2 overs. All the girls did an amazing job and can’t wait to see the improvement in the next couple of years.

On the 12th of March, 80 students from years seven to twelve travelled to Casterton to compete at the Glenelg Division Athletics. It was great to see Monivae showing the rest of the schools our competitive side in every event throughout the day. Overall Monivae came second in both the male and female aggregates. Unfortunately, this meant we didn't get the win overall, placing second to Hamilton College. However, our efforts did not go unrecognized as three of our best athletes won the age group champion. Congratulations Jessica Mibus, Sharnee Hutchison, and Deacon White for your efforts on the day. Finally, thanks to all the teachers who cheered us on from the sidelines and helped make the day run as smoothly as it did. Sharnee Hutchison, Grace Cleaver and Deacon White also broke long standing GD records.

Golf Report

On Monday the 15th of March, 9 of Monivae’s best golfers went to compete in the GWR golf competition at Hamilton Golf Club. After an interrupted season due to Covid-19 last year it was great to see a lot of people back out on the course. The Monivae team was able to put in many good scores across the board having winners in every division except the junior boys. After some early struggles across the board, we found our rhythm and were able to put in some respectable scores for the 9 hole competition. Winners on the day were Sophie Walker in the junior girls with a score of 73, Molly O’Brien in the senior girls with a score of 54 and Bailey Borgmeyer in the senior boys with a score of 38.  Other place-getters on the day were Lauren Borgmeyer in the senior girls with a second place finish and Zach Burgess and Nicholas O’Brien finishing second and third respectively. Overall everyone had an enjoyable day. A big thankyou to Mr. Kruger and Sarah for taking us on the day.
