Principal's Report

Jonathan Rowe

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is interesting how quickly we forget the busy-ness of school life, particularly in term 1. We have managed to get through this first term without COVID-19 impacting too much. A small period of remote learning but otherwise fairly normal. The current lockdown in Brisbane is a reminder however of how quickly our situation can change.  As a school we are well prepared if remote learning is imposed on us again. I have noticed students and staff are both ready for a break and this is due, in part to what was described to me recently, as our lack of ‘Match Fitness’ after 2020.

One recent highlight this term was the Presentation Ball. Changes to Covid restrictions allowed all who attended to be ‘mask free’ which was very welcome. Our year 11 cohort can be very proud of the way they conducted themselves and I could feel the sense of joy amongst everyone. Thank you to the Parents and Friends Association for their organisation and the many parents and staff who volunteered throughout the term and on the night.

Ms. Brighid Cannon is taking leave in terms 2 & 3 and will be replaced by Mr. Phillip Wheaton. Mrs. Rosalie Fotheringham is taking Long Service Leave for five weeks and then retiring. I wish her well in her retirement and I know she is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren. A replacement for Mrs. Fotheringham will be announced shortly.

We begin our holidays with the Easter celebration and we come to this celebration with a sense of hope and renewal. Jesus death and resurrection is the beginning of Christian belief and the joy and peace that comes from Easter is anchored in the love of God. Love that is bigger than anything.

Easter prayer

O Lord, How amazing is your love, A love that overcomes, endures and redeems. How astounding is your life, A life that sustains, heals and creates. How awesome is your hope, A hope that promises, restores and inspires. How absorbing is your truth, A truth that releases, changes and rebuilds.

I wish you all a safe, peaceful and respectful holiday with loved ones and look forward to another term where we can learn and celebrate together.

Kind regards,

Jonathan Rowe
