It’s a Wrap!

As we reflect and wrap up the first term, we can certainly say it’s been a busy and eventful start to the school year! Students have truly settled into the school year with positive learning routines, getting to know their teachers & peers and most importantly being happy to be at school.

With the easing of Covid restrictions, students across the college have been able to enjoy excursions and events that were unable to occur last year including our annual Meet & Greet, District Swimming, Interschool Sports, Outdoor Education excursions and Athletics Carnivals. Some of our Year 9 students are also currently in Queensland for their Camp, and of course the annual Easter Bonnet Parade is coming up next week to finish off the term! We thank all of our students for their energy, positivity and resilience as we continue to work through challenges together and celebrate successes as a school community.

Lunchtime Clubs

It has been wonderful to see students participating in a variety of clubs held during lunchtime for various year levels across the college. Thank you to the staff who have been giving up their time to run these clubs. Students have really enjoyed engaging with their peers in purposeful activities.

Parent Helper Information and Induction Training

Parents and Guardians interested in becoming a helper to assist in classrooms and/or programs across the college have partaken in an information and an induction training session held over the last two weeks. We appreciate the involvement of our parents and guardians in working in partnership to strengthen our school community and we look forward to our parent helpers beginning to assist in Term 2.

Futures Seminar Day

Thank you to Raj Kandasamy and Dale Thompson for organising a wonderful Futures Seminar Day for the Year 9 students on Wednesday 10 March. Raj worked with ‘Future Connect’ (the Local Learning and Employment Network) to create a program for the Year 9 girls that celebrated International Women’s Day.

During this day the female students were able to meet and talk with some amazing and empowering women such as the Brimbank Mayor Ranka Rasic. For the Year 9 boys Dale organised the “Chin-Up Project” workshop, which was designed to support young males to embrace positive masculinity and self-expression.

SAKG (Stephanie Alexander Kitchen and Garden) Partnership with Coles

Mylinh Crossman, who leads the wonderful Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program at Brookside, has developed a community partnership with the new Woodlea Coles. She and two Year 4 students attended the grand opening of the Woodlea Coles two weeks ago and was given a grant of $5000 to use towards the SAKG program.

Easter Bonnet Parade P-9

Our annual Easter Bonnet Parade for all Prep-9 students is almost here! What a wonderful fun way to finish off the term together! The Easter Bonnet Parade will be held on Monday 29 March and is a great opportunity for all families to get involved and be creative by assisting their child/ren in designing their Easter bonnet/hat.

Due to Department of Education Covid Guidelines, only students and staff will be able to attend this event. Therefore, unfortunately no parents and guardians will be able to attend or any upcoming whole school assemblies/events until further advised. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this restriction.

Whole School Assembly/Early Dismissal

A whole school assembly will be held on Thursday 1st April to conclude a successful term.

Dismissal of our students on this day will be at 2:15pm.

The first day of term 2 will be Monday 19th April.

Ambulance Cover

This is an annual reminder that the school and the Department of Education and Training do not cover students or parents for ambulance use.

Please ensure you have an ambulance subscription or cover in your insurance policy as we will not hesitate to use an ambulance if the situation demands it, and fees if you are not covered can be expensive.
