OUTDOOR AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

CAMP 1

The Outdoor and Environmental students visited Phillip Island, Cape Liptrap and the Mornington Peninsula during Week 8, this term.  The camp focused on the historical relationships since the Indigenous Australians in these unique Victorian environments.

The highlight of the camp was snorkelling in Port Phillip Bay at Rye Pier, Portsea Pier, Pope’s Eye and with the Seals at Chinaman’s Hat. The students were able to experience some of the best diving spots in Victoria, where 90% of the species are endemic to the area. By the end of the day the students were extremely comfortable and competent in the water.

It was very pleasing to see most of the group being able to duck dive up to 10 metres at Pope’s Eye and then all being very playful with the Australian Fur Seals at Chinaman’s Hut.

I would like to thank the students and staff members, Hayley Cook and Caitlin Marshall for making the trip very successful and enjoyable.
