The Library has started the year as a place of great activity.  Year 7 students were all introduced to the Library at the start of  the term.

Since then, in conjunction with the English teachers, the Year 7 students have also been introduced to the Premiers’ Reading Challenge and Lilydale High School Reading Challenge, and have been regular visitors to the Library.

Students are welcomed into the Library at lunchtime.  They enjoy using the time to catch up on school work, read, borrow books, play games such as chess, Jenga, Uno and other card and board games, or to simply relax or catch up with friends.

With the wide number of activities available, the Library is once again proving to be a popular lunchtime alternative to the playground.

Some of our VCE students are finding the Library to be a pleasant area to work, doing private study.

Classes are using the various Library classroom areas as an alternative space and resource to their usual class rooms.

Premiers' Reading Challenge

Each year Lilydale High School registers to participate in the 'Premiers’ Reading Challenge'.  Students are challenged to read as many books as they can and log their reading progress.

To achieve the Premiers’ Reading Challenge, students are required to read 15+ books by the first week in September.

The school also holds the Lilydale High School Reading Challenge.  To achieve this, students are required to read 10+ books.

Students from Year 7 are automatically enrolled in the challenges, as part of their English program.

Students who successfully achieve one or both of the challenges are awarded with an achievement certificate and are invited to a celebration held in Term 4.

Last year, 65 of our Year 7 students achieved the Premiers’ Reading Challenge.

Students from Years 8-12 are also invited to participate in the reading challenges.  Students can register at the library.

Book Lovers Group

Students from all year levels are invited to join the school’s Book Lovers Group.

This group of students meet on a regular basis to share their love of books, talk about books they have read and share ideas.

Among other activities, these students also get the opportunity to help the Library choose books to add to the Library collection.
