MATHS

Year 10 General Mathematics

This week, Mr Grantham kindly allowed us into his classroom to see what his Year 10 General Maths students were up to.

The students were partaking in the topic of Trigonometry and looking at the concepts 'Elevation and Depression'.

“We are doing angles of elevation and depression. We are using trigonometry to work it  out” – Lanah Notman and Emily Rice

“We are looking at how a triangle is used to measure height and distance” – Jake Schickerling and Ryan Welderman

“Mr Grantham is helping us with working out the angle of elevation and depression of a boat and a lighthouse” – Rowan Meacham and Matthew McDowell

“A person on a ship observes a lighthouse on a cliff, which is 830 metres away from the ship. The angle of elevation is 12 degrees. We need to find out how far above sea level the top of the lighthouse is, using trigonometry” – Olivia Broadley and Hailey Conder
