NEW Reporting Guidelines
This semester there will be a minor change to the reporting and assessment procedures from Years 7 - 10.
Every student in every class will receive an overall grade for the whole semester's work. Students will be deemed to have:
- Completed all that is required in the subject - SATISFACTORY (S)
- NOT completed all that is required in the subject - NOT SATISFACTORY (N)
It is important to note that the overall grade will be based on EFFORT. The following criteria will apply:
- Being punctual to class
- Being prepared with books and equipment
- Having a positive 'can do' attitude
- Being persistent, not giving up easily
- Complete and submit all of the set work
- Completing assessments
- Completing and submitting homework
Students are aware that if they receive more than 2 N grades in a semester, we will be conferencing with the student and parents/guardians to establish the reasons and put a plan and support in place to move forward.
We have expressed to our students that with improved effort they will improve their achievement - this doesn't only apply to the school environment but in everything they do.
Year 9 Health and Wellbeing Day
This year, to compliment the health curriculum and support our resilience initiatives, we have reintroduced Health and Wellbeing Days.
Last Friday, Year 9 students enthusiastically participated in a day that was aimed at improving their wellbeing and providing an opportunity to build positive relationships with the teachers and their peers.
Thank you to those who demonstrated a 'can do' attitude to the activities on the day and to the teachers who organised and led the activities.
Special thanks to Liz Nevins and Mark Beatson who organised the day and to the Year 12 students, Caitlin Deklijn, Amy Imms, Samantha Beecroft and Riley Hams who did a wonderful job in presenting their stories of resilience to the students.
Education State
Framework for Improving Student Outcomes - FISO
FOCUS - Whole School Approach to Literacy
As part of the Victorian Government's Education State Reform Agenda, all government schools are committing to a network focused on improving student learning outcomes. This framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO) uses the latest research on student learning and global best-practice to assist schools to focus their efforts on key areas that are known to have the greatest impact on school improvement.
Our school has joined with a group of neighbourhood schools to focus on building excellence in teaching and learning, with particular emphasis on improving literacy outcomes in the secondary school setting.
Strong skills in literacy, particularly reading and writing are preconditions for success at school and in the workplace.
Our FISO group is committed to ensuring that research based literacy strategies are embedded in every school with every student.
The schools involved in this FISO group are:
• Bayswater Secondary College
• Emerald Secondary College
• Healesville High School
• Heathmont College
• Lilydale Heights College
• Lilydale High School
• Melba Secondary College
• Mooroolbark Secondary College
• Norwood Secondary College
• Upper Yarra Secondary College
• Yarra Hills Secondary College
