STUDENT LEADERS

School Captains

Last week, the Year 12's were privileged to be able to walk across to Box Hill institute and listen in on an information session with multiple universities representatives providing information surrounding specific courses and how to apply. It was very valuable for those who are looking at next years options for further tertiary education. Our year is not far off completion and decisions and applications are being finalised.

As scary as it is, excitement is creeping in that the end of the year is just around the corner! As we all prepare for exams and the business end of our schooling. With plenty of SACs coming up we're all really knuckling down and preparing for the assessments soon to come, with plenty of hard work ahead.

There was a great turn out by all the students at Athletics day (Thursday 28 July) with a chance to show remarkable talent from all year levels. With the Year 12's impressing as always with their creative and hilarious outfits! Congratulation’s to everyone who participated in their events, and also those students who are representing our school in the next round.

We have some fantastic opportunities for English exam preparation as Ross Huggard, part of VCAA English, is in for a special information session on our exam writing. We also have the privilege to have a practice exam sent out to us and then marked by a VCAA assessor and sent back allowing us access to some important feedback and pointers!

Year 7 Captains

So far in the past few weeks we have been learning a bit about the Olympics.

We watched a video about paralympians and how they had to work hard and keep persisting even with the disabilities they had.

We also learnt how the Olympics started.  I was pretty surprised about how it started, compared to how big the Olympics are now.

Year 8 Captains

In Year 8 over the past few weeks we have been looking at our subject selections for Year 9.

First we spent a period where the Year 9 Coordinators spoke to us about our choices for next year. We then went to a Course Selection evening with our parents and guardians to further our knowledge on choosing our subjects.

Finally, last week we got to fill in our subject selections online and hand them in.

There are many subjects that we haven't had the opportunity to do yet, such as textiles, aerobics, media and sustainability. This whole  process has given us a better understanding of all of the options that are available and the choices we can make.

Empowering Women Through Education

About the event

Empowering women through Education is an event designed to inspire, inform and energise young women to see how the education opportunities they have now will shape the lives they have in the future. This event is designed to develop students' engagement in their studies and expose them to a wide range of inspirational speakers and professional women from a wide range of occupations.

On Monday 8 August, a select group of girls were invited to attend the 3rd Annual Soroptimist International Breakfast. The word Soroptimist originates from Latin meaning 'the Best of Sisters'. The breakfast was meant to inspire and empower us to follow our hearts and think with our heads. There were two guest speakers that spent time talking to us about experiences and life challenges.

Dr Jess Murphy elaborated on 'Clarity 4D' a tool to analyse people's personalities and characteristics. She grew up in rural Queensland and knew the small town life wasn't for her. After trying many distinguishing careers, she found her calling as a business owner with a PhD in business leadership.

Tanya Ha is an advocate for sustainability and is a strong believer that everyone can make a difference. Overall, Tanya's career was very versatile but even more inspiring.

The key concern of the audience was that they didn't know what their futures will hold due to their subject selection. The advice from the guest speakers was that you should choose what you love because there will always be a door that opens for you.
