Senior Basketball
On Thursday 28 July, the Senior Boys and Girls Basketball teams ventured to Dandenong Basketball stadium to compete in the Eastern Region event.
The boys played well in patches, beating Brentwood SC but losing in a tight contest to Templestowe C and Ringwood SC. Better players were Callum Wordsworth and Jamie Pope.
The girls, playing with just 6 players due to injuries, played Templestowe in the first game. In a very tight contest, Chloe Anderson managed to make some crucial plays late in the game to come away with a win. In the next 2 games, the girls managed very convincing wins against Brentwood and Mooroolbark SC, with the biggest concern being a slight ankle sprain to Veronica Burgess. This saw them through to the Grand Final against a formidable Box Hill SSC.
After a slow start to the game, the girls managed to get going and traded baskets to come in 1 point down at half time. Brooke Peacock found a hot hand early in the second half which sawLilydale get out to a 6 point lead. We managed to maintain a lead for most of the second half. With just over a minute to play, the girls had a 1 point lead. Box Hill managed to knock down some big shots to take the lead. With 30 seconds to play, a 3 pointer from Chloe rimmed out. Unfortunately, the girls could not get it back from there going down by 5 points.
A great effort by the girls.
