Year 10 Course Counselling

Current Year 10 students participated in a course counselling session with members from our pathways team on Tuesday August 13th. This day was very well attended and gave students and parents valuable information about the pathway options available in senior school and beyond Year 12. A huge thank-you to all families who attended and to our pathways team and other counselling staff. It was great to hear such a buzz of excitement about what the future holds for our Year 10 students.

Athletics Sports

Last Friday, August 16th we held the last Shepparton High School athletics carnival. While the day was quite chilly, with a drizzle of rain, it didn’t stop students from trying their best or dressing up in some amazing outfits to support their house.

Congratulations to Sutherland, who managed to come out as the overall winners of the day, despite not winning either Boys or Girls aggregates. We thank our students for their fantastic team work and congratulate them on their behaviour on the day.

Year 11 into 12 information session

On Monday August 19th current Year 11 students were given a presentation on the programs available as part of their Year 12 study in 2020. Rikke Mazzella from Latrobe University informed students about the Bradford Program- a mentoring and student support program which commenced this year and is only available to Greater Shepparton College students in 2020.

Students were also reminded about the requirements of passing Year 11 and 12, were informed about the VCE+ program, which allows students to undertake first year university subjects as part of VCE, and started to think about what they should be doing now to give them the best opportunity to undertake further study or move into the workforce after they complete their Year 12 studies.

Students started the process of selecting their subjects for 2020. Any students or parents who would like assistance in choosing their program for next year, please contact Mary-ann Linehan, Leigh McIntyre or Amy Gallacher on 58214322.

Stay in school!

Are you aware that in 2009 the legal school leavers age in Victoria was raised to 17? This change was made in an attempt to decrease unemployment and underemployment. Any student who wishes to leave school before 17 must be going into a full-time education alternative, apprenticeship or full-time employment, and must receive approval from the Regional Office of the Department of Education. If your child is under 17 and thinking of leaving school, please contact the school to discuss their transition plan or set up an exit interview.

Transition Tours

All year levels that are transitioning into Greater Shepparton College next year have now had the opportunity to attend a transition tour of the campus that they will be attending in 2020. These tours were aimed at familiarising students with their new environments, and allowed for them to have some of their questions answered by their student guides. Further sessions are being planned for term 4, which will allow our students to undertake learning experiences at their new campus. If you are worried about your child’s transition into Greater Shepparton College, and feel that they would benefit from some extra support, please contact their Year Level Leaders to discuss additional transition options.

Coffee and Chat

Do you have any questions about Greater Shepparton College that you’d like us to answer? Our leadership team are inviting parents into the school at various times over the next few weeks to meet with us for an informal chat, a cuppa and bite to eat, so that we can address any of your concerns. For catering purposes, please contact the school to book in for the session you’d like to attend. Upcoming session: Wednesday August 28th 8am-9am.

Please keep an eye on the School’s Facebook page for more details about upcoming sessions.
