Digital Technology News

Hi everyone,
For those who are new to the school community and do not know me, I am Lucas, the Digital Technologies Leader. My role is to support the staff and students in learning about and using technology to support their learning.
At St Martin's, we have a range of engaging activities to help the students build on their digital competency. One example is the Coding Club. On Tuesdays, I facilitate a coding club for students who are interested in learning about coding. In the last couple of weeks during Coding Club students have been exploring scratch which is a coding platform where users are able to make basic games using block coding.
One of my other roles this year is teaching Digital Technologies to every year level once a fortnight on their specialists days.
Last week in Grades Three to Six the students had to attach a balloon to a BeeBot and customise it so their balloon would not be popped by another group. They were required to create an algorithm (a series of steps) for their BeeBot to stay in a selected area for two minutes. This was an engaging activity that allowed students to use their problem-solving skills in an exciting way. In Grades Prep to Two the students learnt that an algorithm is a series of instructions. The students created their own algorithm on how they get ready for school and then explored creating algorithms on BeeBots.
Today the ICT User Agreement was sent home via OPEROO. The user agreement is an important document that informs the children of the expectations required when using technology at school. Please take the time to read and discuss it with your child.
Thanks,
Lucas Mangani
