Year 7-10 PCG Swimming Carnival

While the weather this week has been sweltering, this was nothing compared to the heat of the battle that ensued as PCG’s from Years 7-10 battled it out in the pool during the annual PCG Swimming Carnivals. Sadly, due to the COVID restrictions, parents were unable to attend but the students more than made up for it with their passionate and boisterous cheering echoing through the campus. The fantastic showing of the TC Spirit was also evident as students got out of their comfort zone to swim to the best of their ability for the plight of their respective year group PCG’s.

All carnivals were based on maximising participation and enhancing student well-being where students represented their Pastoral Care Groups in inclusive events such as the Board Race Relay as well as the traditional strokes in individual and relay races.

The top placing results for each carnival was as follows:

Congratulations to the successful PCG’s, and to all students for demonstrating great sportsmanship regardless of where their team placed. Special mention is deserved for those students who swum in the maximum 5 races over such a short period of time – this display of fitness was very impressive as was the number of students who swum competitive times to earn themselves a place in the PSA Interschool squad.

Special thanks are extended to Aquatics teacher, Miss Adelaide Garland for her efficient leadership along with all pastoral, administrative, grounds and Physical Education staff for their exceptional teamwork in ensuring the carnival’s ran smoothly.

Blue Tree Round

Our fixture against Hale on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th February is our Blue Round match for the year to support the Blue Tree Project. There are a number of ways the students and the TC community can get involved:

Blue Uniform Day

On Tuesday, 22 February students are asked to wear their PE uniform for a gold coin donation with the funds raised going to support the Blue Tree Project. *Year 11 & 12 students who do not have a PE shirt can wear a blue Trinity sport shirt.

Wellness Activities

During Period 1 on Tuesday, 22 February students will learn about the Blue Tree Project, listen to students share ‘their’ story and complete wellness activities.

PSA Fixtures

Every student during their PSA sporting fixture will wear blue tape around their right wrist to raise awareness for this important and worthy cause.

James Watson to hit the airwaves!

Recently Head Prefect James visited the recording studios of 94.5 to record our upcoming radio advertisement. As of Monday, you may hear James during your morning drive to school or on the way home over the next four weeks.  He may also pop up on some of your favourite digital radio stations. James was the ultimate professional and was an absolute natural behind the mic. A new future career awaits maybe....

A Whole New World

This year’s Year 12 Ball’s theme is Aladdin: A Whole new World. Our Year 12 parents have been working tirelessly to make this memorable event for the Class of 2022. Year 12 parents are asking for help from the TC community, if you can help in any way by donating or lending equipment, please visit the Wishlist below. If you have any questions, contact Gabrielle on Gabriella@mgccivil.com.au. Items can be left at the Main Reception labelled 'Year 12 Ball'.

Prefect Perspectives

Trinity College lifestyle has well and truly begun for the year with PSA sport, music rehearsals and assessments all beginning for the year, with all the usual caveats surrounding interruptions. I have a plethora of well-used media clichés that I could wheel out surrounding the current COVID-19 situation of it being unprecedented, and that we are all in this together and so forth. However, given the copious amount of media coverage that the virus is taking up at this present time, I thought that I would reflect upon the exciting events which have transpired this week.

This week’s activities at the College were headlined by the Middle School Swimming Carnivals for Years 7 through 10. The carnivals provide a wide array of opportunities for boys to compete. From the division A races where boys lay it all down, in order to get some good times in before the interschool carnival in Week 6, to the noodle races which are more my speed, where the boys go just as hard for bragging rights over their mates. All the boys had a ball supporting their peers and missing out on some academic classes. Congratulations to PCG 7.8, 8.6, 9.7 and 10.6 who won bragging rights and more importantly the much converted free icy-poles from the canteen on 35 degree plus days. Thursday saw the more serious swimmers compete at the Age Championships, an important precursor to the interschool where they competed against other swimmers in their year group, to qualify for the interschool event.

In PSA sport action across the weekend, the fixture was against traditional rivals Aquinas College. The results from the weekend were lead by 1st Tennis who secured a comprehensive 23-1 victory against the red and black. As they continue their strong form from Term 4 as they sit second in the race for the Corr Cup.

While I promised to stay away from COVID news, I did wish to provide an update as to the progress of the Year 12 Ball. Due to the dynamic situation with the virus, the Year 12 Ball has been moved from Gibney Hall, to Carrigg Court, to ensure the upmost for a safe environment for the event. Furthermore all attendees will be required to prove double vaccination to attain the event. The hard work being done by the parents on the ball committee should ensure a memorable night.

With mid-term assessments approaching I encourage all boys to encapsulate the TC Spirit in taking on the challenge of assessments. All whilst not neglecting the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle, this could be as simple as taking the dog for a walk, playing sport with your mates, or practicing music. Simply engage in anything which you enjoy that allows you to have a mental refresh.

Have a restful weekend and remember to always bleed the blue and green.
