Junior School
House Swimming Carnival
The House Swimming Carnival was a very enjoyable and successful event. Special thanks to Mr Thompson, Miss Garland and Mrs Spencer for their preparation and planning, thank you also to the staff and students, in particular the House Captains who assisted on the day. It is pleasing to see the way the boys have progressed in their swimming capability from Year 4 through to Year 6, due largely to the aquatics program the school provides.
Congratulations to the following boys who received awards:
Year 4 | Champion – Seth Cass Runner-up – Lawson Duffield Endeavour – Harley Blatchley
|
Year 5 | Champion – Cael McLure Runner-up – Reuben Quinn-Smith Endeavour – Jonah Beale
|
Year 6 | Champion – Nate Cass Runner-up – Spencer Hathrill Endeavour – Matthew Cardaci |
In one of the closest ever results, with 4 points separating first and second, congratulations to the winning House – Xavier followed by Campion, Queens and Chanel.
Parent Information Evening - COVID-19 Style
Thank you to parents who watched the various presentations by the teachers for the Parent Information Sessions this week. There was a lot of information provided by the teachers and I encourage any parents who haven’t viewed them yet, to make time over the next few days.
Old Wood, PPE, Scrapers and Happy Faces!
5 Green have begun a Christian Service project to restore a piece of Trinity College Rowing Club history.
When Christened in the mid-1970s, the ‘Lamborn – Mellor’ rowing eight was the pride of the TC fleet. Mrs Lamborn (Mr John Lamborn’s mother) and Mrs Mellor ran the ‘Second-hand Clothing Store’ at the college which funded this new boat. She was crafted by Sykes Rowing Shells in Victoria from the finest timbers available.
Time, tide and UV-rays have forced the old girl’s retirement from competition, but with some elbow grease, patience and TLC she is being restored as a special occasion ceremonial vessel and will be the first TC Rowing Club Heritage listing.
Thank you to Mr Liam Dee for this opportunity to help.

All students were raring to return to school, on Monday, after an early finish on Friday because of the burst water main. It was also Valentine’s Day, so we hope all the boys gave their mums an extra big hug that day.
On Tuesday, you could smell the excitement of competition in the air with the Junior School House swimming carnival. Although it was disappointing that our parents couldn’t attend, due to new COVID restrictions, we took on their encouragement and did our best. Plus, the sweltering heat made everyone keen to take their turn in the pool. Congratulations to Xavier for the overall win. Thank you to Mr Thompson, Miss Garland, Mrs Spencer, and all the teachers for all the work they did to ensure the swimming carnival ran well. The House captains did an amazing job at showing the Year 4s and all years the TC Spirit. Congratulations to all the champion boys, runner up champion boys and the endeavour awards for Years 4s, 5s, and 6s.
Wednesday was quite a unique day as it was decided by the Junior School for masks to be worn to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID and the potential disruption to classes. It was good to see all students follow this new expectation with a fun variety of coloured masks. During Wednesday lunchtime, our Trinity College Environmental Club (TCEC) met with Miss Stalley. Each week, members of TCEC go around and hand out raffle tickets for waste-free lunch boxes. If students win the raffle, they can choose either a wax wrap or Trinity College sticker.
Also on Wednesday, during Period 5, TCEC Representatives went around and collected the green paper bins in the classrooms. Cans for cash bins will be introduced outside each classroom soon. The class with the most cans will win a 3D printed trophy for the week and all money raised will go towards the STEM room and science equipment.
The scorching heat continued through the week and on Thursday the Year, 5s and 6s competed against Scotch College in the PSA fixtures, on their school grounds. It was HOT but the boys in blue and green did the junior school proud. Poor teachers who were on the bus ride home with the sweaty students!
There have been some changes to the weekly Friday afternoon assembly arrangements and the prefects now attend the classrooms to announce the award winners. Congratulations to the honour card award winners for this week! Please try to donate some money to the missions each week. The class with the most money raised will receive the mission trophy for the week!
We hope the new students, parents, and teachers are settling in and are beginning to feel a part of the TC community.
